Kamui Kobayashi, the former Sauber F-1 driver, crashed an F-60, while driving for a publicity event in Moscow last week. Although the track was wet, he wasn't going very fast. He is either pretty rusty or his car control Is terrible. If Sauber sacked him why the heck is Ferrari interested in this guy. I am not a fan. I predict he will not last long.
Hence the accident. You need speed to generate downforce ... imagine driving a 800 HP 600 kg car with NO downforce on a bumpy road surface in the rain ... no thanks! Pete
How much is one of these cars worth anyway? The factory brought two cars to the event. So he was able to get into number two the spare and continue to drive --even more slowly.
Aside from the silly crash, I was amazed they would run this event on such a road under such conditions. You can see the clear parallel ruts (worn in by decades of trolleybus traffic) along the entire course. The high-res video also shows 2 sets of overhead trolleybus power lines. The uneven traction from the parallel troughs would have made it pretty impossible to steer straight under high speeds without traction control. I don't believe these cars have traction control and I suspect Kobayashi overcooked the throttle under the circumstances; probably a mixture of bad judgment, bad course selection, bad conditions and conflicting pressure to "make noise" for the crowd.
Wasn't going very fast? Dude, this is an F1 car. You can't go slow with it. And get your facts right. Sauber didn't sack him because of his performance. They needed a pay driver that's all.
Lets see how your man does for Ferrari. But you got to admit crashing the F60 does not make for the best first impression! Ha!
It amazes me how people cannot understand that at promotional events the drivers slide the car around on purpose and do burnouts for the crowd. They didn't sack him due to lack of talent, they got rid of him for the $$$$ of Gutierrez.
OK. I posted this because this sort of thing doesn't happen very often! Or does it? I don't think schumi or raiki or Alonso or Massa crashed doing promotional events. But there was this older driver who beached a Cali in the gravel trap by mistake--that was Luca himself!
If you look at the front wheel, he's darn lucky he wasn't killed. The tire bounced straight on top of the area in front of the steering wheel. It looks like it was huge up in the strap. Even slow speed crashes can be deadly in open wheel cars.

Not sure the OP is hating. Kobyashi was known for playing bumper cars during races. It just figures that he would wipe out the car, even if the conditions were stacked against him. Really, who here who saw his F1 drives was surprised that this didn't happen sooner?
I've already debunked this myth. He only retired from races due to collisions 8 times in 60 starts, and that's assuming they were all his fault. Not bad at all for starting in the midfield every race.

Thats great, but Caterham won't be going anywhere so soon. Who knows if Kimi hangs up after 1-2 seasons, Koby might be in a Ferrari
