What exactly did he say that ruffled thier feathers? I don't blame him for being upset, I would be upset too. Ferrari needs to step it up pronto. Anything can happen, but I think this year is done...

I don't know what he said but Fred just went UP one notch in my book. Hungary was an embarrassment. Someone needs to say it.

Monty is right: drivers should drive and STFU. Everybody knows what the situation is, there is not need to rub salt in the wound.

But, with this public statement, isn´t he doing the same he criticizes?

    Two can play that game;

Fernando Alonso insists he is "very happy" at Ferrari despite speculation linking him to move to Red Bull next season.

Having joined Ferrari at the start of the 2010 campaign much was expected of the new partnership but it has yet to deliver a World title with Alonso finishing runner-up in 2010 and again in 2012.

This season it again appears as if the former World Champion will miss out on a third Drivers' title as he dropped even more points to Sebastian Vettel in Hungary. Ten races into this campaign, Alonso trails the Red Bull racer by 39 points.

Throw into the mix the fact that Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad met with Red Bull team boss Christian Horner in Budapest and there is plenty of speculation that the Spaniard has grown tired of being beaten by the Bulls.

Alonso, however, insists he is still happy at Ferrari, he just wants more from the car.

"I'm very happy," said the 31-year-old. "Of course we need to improve the car if we are going to have chances to win the World Championship.

"Always with four weeks with no Formula One it's a very dangerous period for [the media] so hopefully we will have a quiet summer."

Meanwhile, Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali says he's not worried about losing the double World Champion to Red Bull

Asked about the situation, the Italian said: "No."

"First of all we have a contract with him. For sure, Fernando is an asset to the team.

"We need him to work very closely with everyone because after all this is a difficult moment in the season.

"It's about team work. We have to deliver a job. Full stop. This is the same for everyone, not only for him."

Having opened some negotiations with Red Bull, and with maybe some good chance to have a drive there, Alonso should do a "John Surtess" and walk out of his contract immediatly unless Luca de Montezemolo publicly apologises.

Ferrari is going down to politics again...

Not wise by Luca di Montezemolo, if you ask me.

This year's car and development hasn't been good and Alonso has done very well to get the championship standing he has. I would be publicly praising Alonso's efforts to keep the team in contention if I was the Ferrari boss right now.

    As the season goes on:

WCC: no chance. Red Bull will beat them, Mercedes will beat them, and even Lotus are giving them a good fight.

WDC: no chance. Vettel will beat Alonso by virtue of a vastly superior car. Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton might also beat Alonso. Arguably, Alonso is the better driver out of the four, but he isn't on equal footing here.

Sure, they can tout expected advances over the summer break that will bring them up to the current speed of the competition, but the other teams are not standing still either. Let's hope Ferrari are putting lots of effort into their 2014 car, because 2013 looks completely lost from here. :(

    All the best,
    Andrew.

After Schumacher/Todt/Brawn left, and they went all Italian, I knew it would end up this way. I don't care who you hire, but they have to do the job. Don't do it for politics and or national pride. Hopefully Alonso stays and next years car with Rory Byrne will finally come around. I just hope it's not a waste for Alonso like it was for Prost.

You guys are the F1 pros but sounds like this has a bunch to do with Alonso being linked to Red Bull. MLB has done this for years with their local coverage of games--God knows the Red Sox are guilty but everybody knows that's big money baseball. It's a PR campaign....but there really is a ton of cash at stake. I'm only a casual F1 fan but there are even more $$s wrapped up in these drivers.....especially for the team with the horse on their cars!

Still, it´s quite interesting who's gonna be in which team next year. New turbo V6, which team has got the best package? Lot´s of things is going on right now and most of it are behind the scene.

FA putting the team first LOL? They knew who they hired and the team is himself only. The beginning of the end. A public scolding from LdM is just a hint of how bad things are. FA distanced himself from the team in earlier comments at another race. He used the word 'they' not we in reference to the performance of the team. I think it was at Silverstone.

I guess LdM didnt learn much about FA at Mclaren.

Fred and Massa , both need to hit the curb !

LDM has been in this game before Fred has been born, in time of troubles you don't throw your team, engineers, and workers under the bus.

Fred needs Ferrari more than they need him. In 30 yrs nobody will remember Fred, but the ferrari brand will still be around.

He needs to drive better, and stop blaming the car , he needs to motivate his team around him, not point a finger as to why ...OLD parts, that's funny.

There isn't a driver in the field that could produce the results Alonso is producing with that car right now. It'd be an even bigger embarrassment if they put the crasher Kobayashi in the car.

Another remark that might have everyone pissed off is that Alonso asked for a faster car for his birthday. Regardless, it's true and outside of some scathing comments in the media there doesn't seem to be much else Ferrari is doing to make that happen?

Truth be told I think Ferraripilot was right. This car was maxed out from the beginning of the season. There wasn't much else that could be done to it and we're seeing that proof now. I really hope they can come up with something over the summer break as if they don't it's going to be really ugly for the rest of the season.

Luca, Luca, Luca. You're serving up your warnings to the wrong person.

Yeah, drivers should generally keep their complaints within the family but let's get real. The problem with the Ferrari F1 program is not with the driver, it's with the car and that is no secret. And it's been that way for years now.

Until there are fundamental changes to the engineering team or how they do things, there will be no fundamental improvement to the cars and subsequently the results on race day.

I don't care who the world champion is, they're all the same in that they're in it for themselves, not the team. But they all have their limits, and lets face it Alonso has been carrying the team, they wouldn't be placing where they are if it were'nt for his skills. They need to give him at least, a competetive car.

    Hahaha nuff said.

These guys are ruthless and only want what is best for themselves only, and if that means throwing the team under the bus so be it, thats as long as they can do their talking on the track, which of course Fred can.

Is he right yes, should he have been outspoken about it, IMO no, its just stating the obvious.
