But, on the other hand...a large part of the Italian opinion would like him to candidate for Mario Monti replacement, as they find Monti capable, but "a bit dull" for they taste and for Italy. Who knows, he might perhaps be persuaded with the right words...

I told you this all ends in tears.

Of course Luca is ticked. He's looking at the Hungary podium, seeing 3 guys that are also world champions and could be driving for him and he's reading about Fred insulting the team in the media. The results are not there but the team is working hard, so there is nothing to gain by Fred making these remarks other than to prop up his own ego. Thing is Luca you're getting exactly what you deserve since you decided to put all your eggs in the fred basket. Now Seb is locked up, lewis is locked up, maybe kimi even goes to RB because Vettel knows Fred is a devious head-game player. The rot is setting in, actually my bet is that it has been for some time already if both roosters (thats You and fred, Luca) are already making public remarks. All that is left is to see how fred is going to blackmail the organization.

While I'm not the greatest fan of Alonso, he really does seem to be holding Ferrari together at the moment. The car is obviously not a championship competitor and Alonso has done well up to this point to get the championship standing that he currently has. I'd be ticked too if I was Alonso.

Ferrari really need to produce a better car. Selecting almost exclusively from Italians to hold all the key positions in the team really constrains the pool of talent from which you can build a world-dominating organisation. It was narrow-minded, outright foolish of Luca to do it, and he should have known better.

If Ferrari dump Alonso then they're just another mid-pack team at the moment. One can only hope worthy design and development has gone into the 2014 car, because neither 2013 title is coming our way. :(

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Noted however I disagree that making remarks is indicative of holding the team together, in fact it is the opposite. What employer tolerates an employee belittling the efforts of the rest of the organization in public? What happened to a Samurai never stops fighting and all that yada yada? Fred's true colors are starting to show and if I was Luca I'd try to capitalize somehow on getting rid of him before it gets really damaging.

He's maintaining the competitiveness of the team with his excellent driving. If not for the points that Alonso is bringing home, Luca would be charging in there firing many of the top management for producing a dog of a car and leaving the team with mid-pack status.

Alonso's true colours were apparent when he was driving for McLaren. Ferrari hired him anyway, so they can hardly complain on that front. He also demonstrated last year how much staying power he has throughout a season to compete for a title even in difficult circumstances.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

That's the unconfirmed rumor, which is that he arrived at the team with Santander bank I believe.

I wouldn't be surprised if Alonso's contract were similar to Vettel's in that he is locked in for a certain time period and then if the team is not competitive to an acceptable level then he has flexibility to leave. That's what we know about Seb's contract through 2014 anyway.

Dimi Papadolpoulos tweeted about an hour ago that Alonso 'had a go' with the design team and that is what made Luca furious.

Lastly, Ferrari are taking their 2011 machine to Magny Cours for a 3 day test....

How much of Alonso's 30 million euro's a season are Ferrari personally on the hook for?

It's widely assumed that Santander is picking up Alonzo's salary.
How much more they're kicking in and what Ferrari is paying in performance bonuses is unknown.

Is that common practice that top drivers salaries are picked up by a sponsor rather than a team?

I've heard rumors that 48m Euro or thereabouts is the per anum figure Santander offers for sponsorship. It's been alluded that this is the highest title sponsor sum on the field with only Petronas' sponsorship of Merc even coming somewhat close at a rumored 40m Euro which is up from Petronas' initial 2009 sponsorship of 30m Euro.

Even in relative dollars deflated to say 1984 standards, this would have comfortably run a grand prix team. Amazing how times have changed, or how racing has inflated I should say...... is it material cost? or material cost combined with the fact that F1 machines are more airplane than car now?

Many many current F1 drivers are sponsored 'pay drivers' where their sponsor pays their salary and then some to the team.

Exactly. They've already tried Kimi and Fernando. That leaves, what, Lewis and Sebastien? Good luck. Perhaps they should choose "(e) Give Alonso a better car."

A few years back, when Fred was on a different team I remember the on board transmissions of him screaming at his race engineer, "What do I have to do to get by?" By this, he was telling the team to tell his teammate to move over and let him past.

I remember laughing and saying to the TV, just pass him you plunker.

While I like him and he is talented, he is a head case.

All of them at the top are. Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton. Schumacher was maybe the biggest one. The one exception is maybe Kimi, who just doesn't care. Which is why he only has one championship yet.

What still surprises me is that this forum often regards Alonso as somewhat of a saint compared to the others mentioned.

I consider this to be an informed opinion. I do not entirely agree with it, but it is hardly trolling.

Let's face it, F-1 is full of politics, egos, finger-pointing, stupid decisions, head-games, etc. One is not trolling by pointing that out.

He's not going anywhere; nor does he need to. One win cures all; he's just frustrated - as well all are. I certainly don't have the answers to help Ferrari find the next 10th of a second....

Could be worse - look at McLaren; Button was thrilled with where he finished.
