How many can remember the road course at Thompson from the 1950s and 60s.Well it's coming back with the old road course, still with part of the oval, rebuilt. It is schedueled to open in the Spring of 2014. Details on Google. I went to the races there in the 1950s and raced there I think in 1662. This I great news. Many of the best raced there. The Scarabs,Briggs Cunnungham, Kimberly,Gaston Andre etc etc.. Less than two hours from where I live. Can't wait!!! tongascrew

This is great news. Thanks. I drove Formula Fords there years ago and it would be nice to have a decent track close to RI.

I forgot how old I am and as for the Thompson raceway it was way way ahead of its time. Horsepower measured in horseflesh. tongascrew

I had not heard that, very exciting. It is somewhat miraculous to have an old track revived. Riverside gone forever, Bridgehampton is beyond hope. NJ Motorsports Park in Millville is at least distantly reminiscent of the old Vineland Raceway. Really great to hear that Thompson will be back. Can't wait to drive it.

What did ya race there in 1962?

Scarabs were cool cars. I remember seeing the Augie Pabst Scarab years ago. It had a unique trailer. The shell of it was made out of Plexi-glass or whatnot so people on the road could check it out as it drove by.

My friends dad had a Bocar which from what I understand swapped paint with the Scarab's back in the day.
