And the correlation between profits and production numbers has been a positive one.

In 2003, for example, Ferrari sold 4200 cars. In 2012 they sold 7300.

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single company in the world who benefits from lower sales. Not even in the luxury good market. And when it comes to cars, the production numbers have to be low that even if they increased prices significantly, they wouldn't make up for the overall lower sales.

You'd have to sell cars by the hundred, not thousands, to really make much difference.

The car is named LaFerrari...THE Ferrari, yes? What does this suppose to mean? It means it is the culmination of all of Ferrari's engineering know-how in to one supreme machine. THE Ferrari!!!!! All of Ferrari's Formula 1 technology prowess, sporting history, package in one maximum extreme design.
And then if it does not win the Nurburgring lap time against the Maclaren P1? What will this tell you?

The name of the car is a big mistake. You have answered your own question. How can The Ferrari lose to any other car? On the other hand i thought McLaren's name of P1 is an excellent choice. No 1 on the grid.

If I am not mistaken, Ferrari sold less cars in 2012 than in 2011 and still made more money. They will certainly sell even less cars in 2013 and I would bet they would still post record profits. The unit cost and profit margin have increased considerably lately.

Apparently there is a comedian working just beyond the fence at Fiorano these days. ;)

I'm not normally a graffiti proponent, but this is just priceless! :D

EDIT: Since that will probably get some traction elsewhere, the image should be credited to Fiorano 2a - Guillaume E. on Facebook, but he was NOT the man wielding the marker.

Nah, 5% increase in sales in 2012. So if that number is indicative of annual growth, why would they want to decrease production to 7000 from, say, 7350? What difference is 350 cars going to make?

The guy walking around with an apple in his hand just looking at the car. Whatever his job is I want it!

LaFerrari looks like a sleek, deadly predator on the road. That low, slinky profile is so sexy and 'fast' to the eyes. She looks like she's doing 100 just sitting still! A marked contrast to the more bulbous, almost insect-like outlook of P1.

It will tell me that the car is perhaps inferior to the P1. Or perhaps the tyres were cold. Or perhaps it's just a matter of the drivers. Or perhaps the P1 can indeed go faster around corners. So what? I still wouldn't be caught dead in a P1. It's ugly. LaFerrari looks sleek and sexy, and on most roads, I don't push cars beyond 165mph. I know it can do that. I know it can handle REALLY well while doing that. And it's a Ferrari, who seem to understand what I want out of a car better than McLaren with their techno wizardry. I had an MP4-12C doing 160+. It was boring. Just like a Porsche. Effortless, but boring. I like the ceramic clutch on the CGT. I like the precog shifting of the MP4. It wasn't enough to overcome the lack of involvement.

Driving Ferraris is not boring, even when they have a lot of tech. Ferrari dials in the user involvement just right. My heart always pounds after a spirited drive with a Ferrari. I stop and look at the car after I exit. With an MP4 you blip the keyfob without turning around. It might as well be a Toyota. With a Porsche, you check your lap times and wonder how you could do better, it's a very capable car and you are the limiting factor. But you never want to do much more with it. It's a machine, just made for usage.

    Ferraris you love.

At least, I do. I don't think I am blindly loyal to the factory...but if I am, it's the reason Ferrari is so successful, because it inspires such brand loyalty.

    That looks awsome.

The video is taken from a BMW 3 series, and if we play a game of imagination say it is a 335i, a very fast car(306hp), almost m3 level, the Laferrari would have exactly a plus of power equal to that of the enzo;s engine..660hp.

Yes. There is a reason that such decisive "match" events don't happen. The Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche (and Audi to a lesser extent) brands depend largely on panache gained from their racing prowess. Over time this rubs off on their production cars, like it or not. So none of them would engage in an event judged to be a critical test of a flagship car unless one felt they had an advantage. Who would knowingly enter such a contest without thinking one had an advantage?

Make less cars, sell them at a higher price, personalise as many of them as possible to up the price even further, sell more merchandise.

Sounds a bit like Groucho's ten cent nickel.

I get the idea but let's not kid ourselves. Ferrari would prefer to sell more cars. They didn't add capacity to see it sit idle.

It's amazing that you know better than Ferrari what they really want. lol
They decided on doing something more clever than simply upping production. This way they preserve exclucivity and make more money. Good thinking on their part!
