Mike, I think those are the European numbers right as there were no Valeo coupes imported to the US to my knowledge?

Total global numbers, but yes you are correct in saying no coupe Valeos in US form.

In the other F Site, we shall not mention here, a Valeo owner said, "after further research found that there were ONLY (5) FIVE in the whole world made in 1993 and (3) coupes and that a lot RARER then I thought. GO VALEO!"
So I think it be hard pressed to find more than 10 ever made worldwide...

 

Hi gang,

The Matthias Urban book of serial numbers, has 23 Valeo cars listed, with the last being #97397. Just for fun, here are two of them, side by side. It could be called a "Valeopalooza"

Hi Greg,
The book, based on the Raab Files, lists all known serial numbers, world wide. My edition goes up to 07. If an additional Valeo turned up in a later edition, it would only be one that was "discovered".

BTW, it is a great book to own !!! Note, in addition to #s, it lists paint and interior colors whenever known.

Have you changed the gearbox oil on your Mondi Valeo?
The Valeo controller sits right above the oil cap filler plug which has a 32mm hex head cap.
Looks like I can get to it ok but do you know if its a screw off or press fit plug?

Honestly Greg, I couldn't tell you. My tech, Eugenio, does the fluid changes, and is going to do the major this coming winter and - - - well, you get it, right? Regarding these amazing cars, my strong points address "other" facets of the diamond

But as for your question, I'll guess - - screw off. Edit - just talked to Eugenio - - it is screw off - not easy, but hey ...........

The Lotus looks like a toy next to Rachel. Great pic. I tried to close the engine cover on the Lotus using your Mondial technique, but my butt didnt reach.

Hi Greg, as you know the Mondial did not have a factory Scuderia shield option like the newer models from the dealership. What I did was to compare it to a 360, same size car, studied the wing placement of the shield, then temp taped it to see what it looks like. Once it looked centered to me, I used 3m double sided tape on it, easy to remove - never use glue. Now that I have one side correct, I created a stencil out of tracing paper of the wing area, cut out where the shield goes. flipped it over, transferred it to the opposite wing side and had a perfect symetric match. If your on the fence, get the magnetic type and try the look for a while. As soon as I bought my car, I knew I wanted the shields and it had to be the metal thick type so thats what I got.

Hank, this description of the first Valeo transmission is interesting:

"This car, chassis number 79883 is another “Agnelli Speciale” and is fitted with a Valeo electronic clutch system which had been developed and proven in the Lancia Delta Integrale rally cars, as well as a few Mondial cabriolets and coupes. Agnelli’s left leg had been weakened in a road accident and the system takes away the need for a clutch pedal. Valeo uses the normal gear lever which, when moved, sends signals to a master control unit and then to the clutch actuator motor which engages or disengages the clutch in less than 100 milliseconds. Built-in safety features stop the car being started in gear and prevent the driver selecting too high a gear or too low."

Looks like it was developed to compensate for Agnelli's left leg that was hurt in an accident!

Yes - I was having shifting problems when the battery light came on and a quick check showed that the alternator was putting out less than 11V when the car was running.
My guess is the ECU is sensitive to the correct voltage/amperage to make the Valeo system work.

Did the clutch warning light come on? My alternator went out a while back and somehow threw the system out of calibration. I didn't experience it myself. It happened when my car was in for service. The system had to be reset with a SD1 at NJB Automotive. As I understand, only the older SD1 diagnostic system has the software to do this. Ferrari did not forward the Valeo clutch software to the newer SD2 or SD3 systems. . The Leonardo system does not have it either. Its a quick and simple procedure with SD1. You might want to call Jack Babbit @ NJB.
These guys know about the system.

 

The clutch warning light did not come on.
I'm in the process of getting the alternator rebuilt and when I get the time to put back in the car I'll let you know if that solves the problem.
Can you give me a number for NJB so I have it for my files please?

Replacing the alternator solved the problems with the Valeo electronic issues as it must be sensitive to low voltage situations as I'm now reading over 13V's with car running versus less than 11V before.
