Meh, I feel like you could put any badging on it and it would pass as BMW, Infiniti, etc...

Wish it were more dramatic.

 

I felt the same way. What bothers me most is the fact that Chrysler plastic is making its way into the interior.

ready for a HP boost

 

Got to see and sit in the new Ghibli at the Keeneland Concours. Looks very nice. Was able to start it and the car has a nice sound. The dealer feels it will sell extremely well. I think very soon we will start seeing many more Maseratis on the road.

Which engine did you sample and does this Ghibli finally put an end to cable drive water pump ... ?


BTW, I can never get too little of silver/black cars - BORING. Are they trying to make this car a sleeper or what?

 

When I first saw the under hood photo, my immediate thought was Citroen SM, and thats not good.

The 2002 ->2007 Coupes did a nice job of presenting a pretty engine, as did the QP.
Maserati has usually had engines that one likes to look at and even though it's completely meaningless as far as performance and reliability are concerned it's a "car guy" romance thing going way back.

Maybe the new target market doesn't give a s**t?

I agree, these engines aren't sexy looking at all. No they tell me that the new Maserati engine designer, ex Ferrari, designed all of these but they do look more like Chrysler stuff?
I wonder if it's because these engines will end up in other cars besides the Maserati?

The latest Jag F-Type has nothing sexy to look at under the hood either. Just a lot of nicely designed plastic covers. I saw one last Sunday and that was supercharged V6. It was better than this though.

The old fart Jag owners like me weren't exactly that impressed with that car but then it was white with black interior and about 100F in the shade at the time. Everything is ugly when it's that hot and ungodly humid as well.

A few more nicely designed plastic covers that hide as the "Citroen like" stuff would probably help.

 

I don't like plastic panels covering every mechanical piece under the hood. But it's like that on almost every car now. The target market for this new Maserati is probably not "car guys", but rather image-conscious upper middle class professionals. (Okay, maybe some of us are that. But we are car guys, also).

Anyway, I think it looks like a nice car. I hope it does well for Maserati.

Looks like the new V6 Twin Turbo.

 

I miss the distinctive PF styling. That was the single biggest factor for me as far as Maserati was concerned. Not a fan of the new in-house styling. The new QP and Ghibli look a bit too mainstream.

 

But which version?

 

It may look like an Infiniti or BMW, but I bet it doesn't sound like it!

And how many Bi-turbo parts did you sell?

I haven't seen this car yet (I might on Monday) but I have seen the new QP with it's twin turbo V8 (and 535 HP) and the interior is really cool. It's much more sportier and dramatic looking. And the shocker: back seats actually have room for adults!!!

 

Are the older QPs not as spacious?

 

Back seat too small for most adults and the truck too small. The new one is great. The new truck is huge!

The one I saw had a CF dash better looking than the f12. Seats are sporty and excellent.

 

Read Automobile Magazine's first drive of the Ghibli. They feel that it is the perfect car for enthusiasts, and the only place it is lacking is in the interior. It looks wonderful in their photos.

 

I saw one today in a creme with white interior and "unfinished" wood accents, or non-gloss anyway, and it was really sharp, and unique.

Trunk is nothing short of ginormous. Needs an auto-close in later models, but the lid on the trunk is super light so no biggie.

 

My dealer is getting some new Ghibli's in soon. I'll try to get a ride in one.

 

I wish they would not use these classic names from the past on cars that are totally dissimilar to the original.

What's next, an SUV named Mistral - or a crossover named Bora?

 

Better than Kubang or Levante.

 

Old news, Bora already belongs to VW as does ItalDesign.
