Gang, For those keeping track at home....finished all the fuel injector sensors yesterday - namely, 4 - 8 Admittedly, this was not the most productive weekend for the GCK project. I had a social engagement which took me out of town until 3pm yesterday, so only had a few hours to work on Francesca. What's left now is the rectangular plug, the ECU and one 3-prong sensor under the car. Hoping to tackle them this week. The CELs still come on -- no surprises there -- but I understand that will still likely happen until the ECU is tended to. ketel
Too much emotion in this thread preventing objective discussion, so yes, you are p...ing against the wind. As I mentioned in post #396 I have in my posession various manufacturer (eg. Bosch & Siemens) design standards which specifically prohibit tin:gold electrical connectors I cannot and will not publish these documents since I am subject to confidentiality agreements, but these guys really know what they're talking about with sample sizes of tens of millions and 100+ years of know-how. I actually have the gold kit on my car, fitted before knowing what I know now, and honestly, I'm keeping a close eye on things. In fact, I am contemplating the possibility of sourcing some good quality tin connectors and retrofitting them in the ECU plugs. The gold kit didn't really do anything for my car (as I already posted 2 years ago here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/140758954-post35.html). Actually, the main thing that made a real difference to my car and gave it 'zing' was when I did the first major on it myself and set the timing with degree wheel.
thank you for your objective candor. very refreshing in this thread full of as you state emotion. i wonder if the "performance" increase people are see with the kit is because they are subconsciously driving differently, i.e. more aggressive with the throttle?
I only speak about my own experiences and try not to speculate about other's situations. If people post on here that their cars are transformed then I take those comments in good faith. FWIW... The three best improvements on my car were: - degreeing the cams (more tq, faster accel.) - balancing the throttles (smoother idle, better slow speed drivability) - Goodridge braided brake lines (nicer pedal feel) Mods which made no discernable performance difference whatsoever: - K&N air filters (binned within a month) - Tubi muffler - GCK
Not necessarily. Before you do the ECU, can you please finish all of your connectors, clear your codes, and drive the car again? Afterwards, if you get a new CEL can you post those codes? (but before you open up your ecu)
A bit off topic but seems the entire thread is going everywhere What specs did you degree your cam at? Factory or did you tweak it a bit?
I went for factory. I don't have the courage to go for any off-spec tweaking!! The possible consequences are too drastic to contemplate! Interestingly, the factory marks were out of alignment before I started and in alignment after degreeing. This in itself is another highly contentious subject posted on extensively elsewhere. A bit of slight off topic might help diffuse some of tension in this thread .
Why no answer. If scientific studies were done then there should be some sort of time line for **** sake. And no I have not done the main cpus yet. Havnt gotten around to it and the car is running unbelievably well.
I don't have time to go through 1 trillion studies and the opinions of other car manufacturers. You guys have, so tell me how long my car will go before the connections are kaput. You don't have to be precise....give or take 5 years will do.
How about you quantify how your car is the best running 355 every made? Respectfully, I've been on this forum since Nov. and I can't recall a single post with helpful info or photos of this $100k 355....
No I havnt ever been on the dyno. My dyno is built into my arse. Before we made the modes on my car, I was not very impressed with the acceleration....it wasn't bad but could use more power. After the SRI kit sans cpu pins or injectors...the car pulled very well. Then My engine came out and I did the injector pins as well. We changed the timing to challenge spec and turfed the cats. The car ran even better. A month later my revised chips arrived from Italy and then the car performed even better. The chips now allow the engine to perform the way it was designed to as they were drastically detuned for the north American market. Before all these improvements, I would bounce off the rev limiter now and then but since all the modes have been done, I have only bounced off the limiter once to see where it was....its now at 9000rpm. I have all the power one would ever want in a 355 and I love it. Based on side to side comparisons on the road with a 360, my 355 is probably just a little faster than a 360. When I had my car on the track, my mechanic said that my car pulled more than a challenge car in a straight line and he should know as he was one of the best 355 challenge mechanics around with FoOntario.
Dave....don't go down these rabbit holes.... If they choose to ignore everything here, then no good can be done. Look at all of the derailing posts.....mainly from members involved in GCK and people living in CO (hmmmmmmm???) At this point, I think we have proven that GOLD on the ECU is a bad idea with no specific expiration date. So, now lets determine if GOLD IS GOOD elsewhere. What did others think about how gold performs at the temperature goes up?
My 355 is running fantastic with the kit for the last 4 years plus and if there is no corrosion now then how much will there be in 10 years? Ill bet little and maybe none. So if this kit can give me 20+ years of great running then Im happy as by then I will more than likely be rebuilding the whole car including a new wiring loom and new gold kit to start all over. By this time I will be well into my 70s. So please tell me again where the downfall is of having my car run like a clock for many years to come.
Like ive said to you before Dave, Your not that far from Toronto, please come up and visit and meet the guy who was in on designing 5 Ferraris including the 430 and also won 6 WC in formula 1 with MS. You will then see my car and possibly drive it. Now isn't that better than pictures? The guy on the left is he. Don't know the other guy. Also a pic of my newest challenge wheels just to keep your interest. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have to believe these connections are TIN and see the most amount of heat. They sit right in front of the muffler and above the pre cats on the 512tr. Is the 355 like that? So, if you believe the data....and you see a trend that the 02 sensors are a root problem causing the CELS......COULD the operating TEMP at THIS connector cause the tin resistance to go UP and give the ECU a less than ideal iput? Remember that this is the lowest voltage circuit in the entire car and resistance here will have the biggest effect. right?
OK Gerry....Ill go off tangent....is that MS?!!! Not fair, because now I know that you have his special ECUs that let your car rev to 9K! Not fair, not fair.......but can we clone your ECU? Ha! Now that would be an upgrade! (hopefully all of you have read that MS had a special 355)
Can anyone tell me if the gold pins were supposed to go on both the male and female pins because I only could figure they went on one side.
Not sure if you understand how dissimilar metal corrosion works. Someone had used the perfect analogy of cancer and Ill use it here again. If someone came up to you and said Ive been smoking two packs a day since I was 10 years old, can you please tell me when Ill get lung cancer? You don't have to be precise....give or take 5 years will do. How would you answer that? There are too many variables in the cancer situation and in this situation to give you an answer that would be satisfactory. And guess what? There are people who smoke two packs a day and will never get cancer and there some who will never touch a cigarette in their life and will get lung cancer. I do hope the people who have the kit installed fall into the former category but with using incorrect materials, you have increased your chances of corrosion just as you increase your chances of cancer if you smoke a two packs a day. I also find it odd that you have stated the gck gave you one of the best running 355 on the planet yet you have not installed it on the ecu. Thats like someone saying the tires they just bought made their care car the best handling car in the world and you later find out theyve only installed the new tires in the front and left the ones in back alone.
Gold kit users, It is obvious that the naysayers have an agenda to destroy and discredit SRI. They complaint about a technical detail as if the world revolved around it. They complain about SRI hoses which are not part of this discussion. They call SRI's body of work marketing hype. They complain about the SRI fee for its products. These people are not about finding answers or solving problems or making our cars better. I recommend those who know technical details resist the urge to help them out as they will twist and destroy. Nothing can be gained by giving out additional information that they could use in competition or as means to front their destructive agenda.
Except that you have not proven that the gold kit doesn't work. And that is the only thing that matters. Kai
