Just went out for a drive. Nice older gentleman walks up to me in a parking lot very excited. Wanted to know when I got the new Mustang. I explained to him what it was and he almost cried. He said he saw the horse emblem and just figured it was a Mustang. I told him that Ferrari invented the horse emblem. Lol. He must have spent 10 minutes walking around the car asking a million questions and he left with a giant smile.

I had a guy last summer yell at a stop light "hey what do you have in that mustang?" I simply replied "v8"

Did you read the thread "Anyone ever ask you why you bought a Ferrari?"?
Now we have the right answer: "It's not a Ferrari, it's just a Mustang!"
    ;)

I wear a mullet when I drive mine. Nobody ever mistakes it for a Ferrari. ;)

No kidding, I have this happen several times!!

One time it was this biker guy and his girlfriend. The guy says, "What year Mustang is this??", girlfriend punches him in the arm and says, "Its a Ferrari, idiot!!". That still didn't register anything with him! LOL!

The same thing happened to me two weekends ago. Three men were doing tree removal and shrub trimming at my home, and one of them, seeing the prancing horse on the back of my F430, asked his co-worker: "Is that a Mustang emblem?" Have you ever seen a Mustang "mascot" PRANCE? "A horse is a horse, of course, of course," but the cavallino rampante is a horse of a different color, no? Fred

Happened to me as well. When a guy mistakes a Ferrari for a Mustang, you know he's not a car guy for sure.

First day I brought my car to work, this guy walks up and says, "Nice Mustang". I politely asked, "What would make you think it was a Mustang?", to which he replied, "Well, the horse." What gets me is that it says FERRARI right above the horse, the license plate frame said, "Ferrari of San Francisco" right below the horse, and the license frame insert was blazing red with "FERRARI of San Francisco" in white letters.

I haven't had mine confused for a Mustang, though I have had people tell me they have made that mistake.

Lately, most people have been asking me if it's a Porsche!!!! Then they take a deep breath when they hear me say the F-word. ...then I say it's a Ferrari. :D hehe

my 360 gets confused with Porsches A LOT but only a Mustang once (because of the horse).

My wife likes to ask if we can take the Porsche out because from the front she says she can't tell the difference (I am keeping her anway (the wife)).

I'm a Mustang fanatic, so I don't think it's offensive to have one mistaken for the other. Now, the Mustang is a low-cost, low-tech, bang-for-the-buck car and Ferrari is the absolute best, money no object, performance car. And a Mustang has ride quality similar to a freight train while the Ferrari rides like its on rails. But I can see how one might mix them up based solely on the emblem.

But to be mistaken for the styling of a Porsche is the ultimate slap in the face.

People get confused all the time with silly little letters. My favorite is when people get confused with the "PULL" on doors.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but I think some of these people do it on purpose. Think about, only a car person would ask another person about their car and ANY car person knows the difference between the two. Or there's just a lot of dumb people!

Either way, I bet the Mustang guys never get "hey nice Ferrari" :)

...ohh, uhh, you dont want the Harley women, unless you like tattoos, excessive skin folds, missing teeth, flatulence, and regularly losing arm wrestling matches. (in general). Now sport bike girls...

Seems to be a literacy issue. Reading is fundamental.

    My Story:
After a Ferrari first date (308 GTBi). She comments on how nice my Corvette is. I forget her name....

I've had the Mustang thing happen many times over the years. If it comes from senior citizens, it is a genuine mistake.

When it comes from the low information voter crowd, it's a literacy issue.

Yes. He was a nice older man driving a mini van. He was actually very apologetic when he realized his mistake. Then he had a million questions about the car.

The times my car has been confused for a Porsche involved women each time, who confessed after I told them it was a Ferrari that "they had no idea about cars, but were drawn to mine" or some variation thereof.

It's not really a slap in the face to me to have it called a P-car, I guess I look at it as a chance to "educate" someone on the finer things. Plus, I genuinely go out of my way to be nice to people who have a positive interest in my car, so that they generally reflect positively on Ferrari people like us. :)

The only thing that annoys me.. well not the ONLY thing... is that OK people confuse it for a Porsche or Mustang. I get that. I would LOVE to drive it to work and have people confuse it for a mustang or porsche. I could fly under the radar. It would be sweet.

Except I know that if I did drive it in.. everyone would recognize it as a Ferrari! (No no it's a mustang.. "sure doc then why does it say Ferrari on the rear?") They'd never notice if it were parked anywhere else.
