i was also talking to a friend of mine in Boston last week, Pat mical who runs Performance Automotive Tech. a well known and respected exotic car specialist, He done some research and came back with these wheels, they are two piece modular and weigh about 30% less than the factory wheel, spun forged centre, polished outer rim, i dont yet have exact details on them other than size is again 8x17 and 9x17 and prce is $3300

Sorry for the shamless plug, but at least you can talk to a ferrari lover when you call in.

Heard from compomotive. Wheels would be about $2600. They can do rears in a 9 or 10 inch and fronts are 9. There are also options on finish to eliminate that bling look on some modular wheels. Wheels weigh about 17.5lbs each not including the spline adaptor. Does anyone know the weight of stock boxer wheels, with and without spline adaptor?

I am thinlking this is the most reasonable way to go, and given boxer price increase speculation a must before prices turn these cars into "cllectable" hanger queens with origional brake fluid etc.

    Ferrari 512BBi Metric Wheels – a year 2013 solution.
By Les Arrowsmith - E Mail: [email protected]

As any owners, myself included, will know the cost of tyres for the 512i Ferrari Boxer series of cars is now in the region of £400 per corner and the choice is limited to only one type of tyre, namely the modern day derivatives of the original, 40 year-old design, Michelin TRX.

I have researched numerous websites to see whether anyone produces an Imperial sized wheel which would take modern quality tyres; since even renowned manufacturers such as OZ and Campagnolo don’t produce centre-lock wheel patterns any more.

After first making enquiry about three years ago I have recently been contacted by Jonathan Sage of Group 4 Wheels Ltd, which firm is contemplating production of solid cast wheels in 17” size which is the closest to the original 415mm (16.5”) diameter of the metric wheels. The splined, knock-on wheel centres will have to be transferred from your old wheels and bolted onto the new rims but it’s a simple job and having done so you will have the opportunity to run modern tyres and keep your precious, original wheels wrapped up so as not to devalue your car when it eventually finds a new home.
These new wheels will be compatible with all 2000, or so, cars in the Ferrari Boxer series but will also fit early 365GT4’s, 365GTC4’s and even Daytona’s if you want modern levels of track-day adhesion whilst still retaining the original wheels for shows and of course, originality. Costs per wheel have not yet been finalized but since almost any Boxer is now approaching values in the order of £100k a set of brand- new wheels can only enhance that value and give the added driving pleasure of grippy, new, thoroughly up-to-date tyres.
Prices will come down if this project creates sufficient interest so please E-mail me with any ideas of your own, or suggestions and I’ll hand them on to Jonathan; checkout the Group 4 Wheels website to see what they’ve managed to do so far in keeping middle-aged Italian cars rolling smoothly along the road.
Ideal tyre replacements : Front – 225/55/17 (TRX diameter 679 mm)
    Rear – 255/50/17 (TRX diameter 679 mm)

Can anybody recommend tires for the BB -- are the Coker XWXs the only option in 225/70-15 and 215/70-15?

There are several options in 215/70. The XWX is the only option I am aware of in 225/70.

    I have a set of Image wheels on my BB, 17 x 8 & 17 x 10, with Khumo tires.

I have been pretty happy, but I may revert to the originals and install a set of AVON DOT tires.

If I sell the set it, will include a set of spline hubs.

Can anybody link to the Avon tires that are being discussed? Is this for the 225/70 and 215/70 tires, or the BBi tires?

    Thank you.

This information would be for Boxer wearing non-TRX wheels. The 215/70 VR 15 is available through several manufacturers. The problem, if you will, is with the rear 225/70 VR 15. Currently, only Coker makes that exact size. But, the Avon DOT-approved "race" tire may be an option.

    Thanks Pete...
So what are you folks who are running stock non-metric wheels running on the rear of the these cars? Personally, I just can't get too excited about the XWXs in either the performance or price department. From what I'm seeing, the Avon's are available in a 225/65 15 which would lower the rear...not the direction I want to be if the front remains at the same ride height. What say ye?

This Avon chart is from Roger Kraus Racing in California. I bought my Avons from them. Good service, no hassles.

Further to these messages, I have been looking around for tyres for my 365 and think the Avon CR6ZZ looks like a real alternative to the Michelins.

I spoke with the Australian dealer and they are available in either 215/70/15 or 225/65/15, which has the identical rolling diameter. This would make these an interesting +1 option on original wheels.

They are an historic motorsport tyre, using modern compound. It was described to me as an Spec-R tyre with traditional tread patterns and profiles, popular on Cobras, GT40s, Healys etc.

Also described as being grippy in the wet, but with appropriate dry grip (i.e sympathetic on old drive trains and suspensions of the 70s).

Can anyone suggest how 225s are for lateral clearance on the front and rear of a 365BB?

I have attached the info on this tyre and would be interested in feedback.

I cannot answer the question about the Avon sizing, but I have them on my Kirkham Cobra. They are fantastic tires! Great grip, ride and looks.

We have made many tests with a few tire sets of different manufactorer and a F365BB... and the best in performance, grip (dry and wet) are the CR6ZZ for legal road use.

I have 18" compomotive rims w/ Mich Pilot. Car handles well and speed is spooky calm, but I'd like to use (or at least try) the stock TRX wheels/tires, and orig tires are looking a bit "aged".

Anyone inquire if maybe 6 or 10 sets (possibly more??) of the stock 240/55-415 TRX would scale back costs? This is a cool tool that F-Chat and other F-car clubs can sometimes help with.
