Please post here for us poor unfortunate souls that could not get off work. :)
Hoping many photos are forthcoming! This morning I was out in the garage when I heard the unmistakeable sound of multiple radials flying overhead. Thinking B-17 or B-25 I dashed to the driveway and just caught the tail end of three T-6 Texans (I think) flying in formation towards Lake Michigan to the Milwaukee air&water show. This is the first time in 4 years that we haven't rented a pontoon boat to be on the water for this great show. Would have loved to see the Harrier this year, last year they had an Osprey which was super cool.
The last 4 years I was out on my boat for the show. Great views and sounds from the boat. This year I'm sitting at home with a ankle injury. You going to the show at all?
I just got back from EAA and FCA. I have probably 1,500 pictures from EAA. I will try to go through them and post some of the better ones in the next day or so.
I've got quite a few shots I finally got done going through from Friday. Hope this helps for some of you that couldn't make it this year! https://picasaweb.google.com/103458520093757627824/2013EAAAirVenture?authuser=0&feat=directlink
Great pictures, thanks for sharing. Is that Grumman Tigercar one of the most beautiful looking aircraft ever made or what ?
Totally ahead of the P-61 in beautiful form. The Black Widow to me is a functional tool. The Tiger Cat is sheer functional beauty, gorgeous lofting.
Agreed, very cool indeed. Unfortunately, I did not see this one flying. Gentlemen, you're too kind. I'm certainly no professional, just an amateur that enjoys photography and airplanes.
Saw the rocket man...new name, gnat man. We could not see anything but what looked like a fly with contrails. Very disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it was cool, and he is a modern day superman. Just disappointing even with the jumbotron. His act is made for film and visual media. The Harrier was much better, and very, very loud! Pics to follow.
I think the Tiger Cat is just gorgeous. As a twin from WW2 for me its a toss up between it and the DH Mosquito in PR form. Maybe I will just buy one of each....
Bummer, best wishes on the recovery! I was too busy packing up the house and garage for our move to TX to go to the lakefront, but did run out to the driveway several times when interesting sounds flew overhead. The best was when all six T-6's of the Geico "Skytypers" flying in tight formation at no more than 500' AGL rumbled directly over my house! I was jumping up and down with my arms in the air like a little kid EXCELLENT photos! Is F4Udriver home yet? Looking forward to any stories he has from Airventure!
Flew formation up to Oshkosh in my T-34 with one of the Tora Zero's. Unbelievable clouds and great visibility that day. My son took pictures of the flight I will try to post them later. After 40 years I don't even take my camera. We had to circle the island a couple of times on the Warbird arrival and a 3 Mustangs came barreling in below us. Made me wish I had taken mine but it is almost guaranteed when you bring an expensive airplane there a thunderstorm his always following me to the field. We were able to do an overhead and land as a 2 ship which is always fun. I was able to meet a new Mustang owner who borrowed some of my gun bay parts on his airplane in order to have it judged. The weather was the best I can ever remember and the show was fantastic. One of the most crowded display was the Wildcat just pulled up from Lake Michigan. I think they have brought up 46 aircraft so far. There was a lot of damage with the tail having been ripped off. But in today's world that is very repairable. The Tucano display was very impressive and that aircraft is definitely on my goal list. I highly recommend anyone thinking of going schedule the time for next year. I will be off to the Reno Races in September for my 31rst year there, another great place to go.
Guess I'm a tool guy... The Black Widow is a slightly ungainly humpbacked machine that looks like nothing else and has a job to do. Even as a kid I thought it fascinating looking. Mean... sinister. It has the perfect name, lacking only a red hourglass on it's belly. The TigerCat is pretty, sleek and featureless... like a modern Japanese sedan. It looks fast, but to me has less 'character'. The Mosquito and the P-38 Lightning though, are marvelous. All the above are my own personal cockeyed opinions.... Also, sorry about the way off-topic meander.
