Does anyone know anything about the Caparo T-1 Is it still being produced How many were made Any idea what one would sell for Not in the market I plan long in advance for cars I may add in the future
Well, last year 16 examples have been sold in the United Kingdom. The price is around GB £235,000 and yes it is still in production. They said that they will build 25 cars per year but it seems that crisis played a major role to the sales. Here is the official site: Caparo T1 ? A new uncompromised and unconstrained sports car that sets new boundaries in performance, driver experience and enjoyment
Thanks for the info I had searched for over an hour and I was not able to find that kind of information by myself. Now does anyone know if they suffer a high amount of depreciation, or hold their own for value. My biggest desire for the Caparo is the engine and the 10,500 rpm red line.
I'd also look at the Radical RXC with the RPA 3.0 liter v8 Showroom - Radical RXC - Radical Sportscars
In my opinion Caparo is more raw and very crazy machine. If i had to choose between Caparo and Radical i would go for the first!! God!!
You have good taste. Have you considered the Apollo Gumpert? Dallara? Not street legal in the US. However, for track use, you can import one. Car has a reputation for having reliability problems. High cost means it's a toy for the wealthy. It's a small market, and smaller yet for resale. Most would buy new. But then again, anything sells when the price is right, and there are plenty of trackday enthusiasts who would buy it. If you are prepared to take a hit financially, and you know your way around cars or have a great mechanic, go for it.
I plan years ahead and I have always wanted a race car on the street. I am of the Countach poster on the wall era and it took me 14 years of planning and saving to finally obtain one. I remember being asked what the payments were for a Lamborghini. I told them one big one. About 15 years ago I had a replica M6BGT that was very correct with an aluminum tub and the suspension from a Lola T-70. Biggest problem I had was the tires loosing air through the magnesium wheels. But the scary part was hitting a bump when in a turn. The car would fly off the ground and land to the outside of the turn. Then one day after watching a buddy spin it about 5 times in a row I was looking at the car in front of me and realized if I hit them I would literally loose my head. So I sold that and the closest thing I have to the raw race car on the street is my Mosler MT900. I have the light weight clutch and flywheel so it revs pretty fast. But only to 6,700rpm. BUT I still want to have a car that will hit over 10,000 rpm. I just added an MP4 to my collection, but it only hits 8,500rpm. I even thought of finding the engine that they use in the Caparo and putting it in the Mosler but that would only be if the Caparo never depreciates to a more reasonable price for a car with no top at all. And it may make the Mosler less reliable. So if anyone has knowledge of "used" prices please let me know. Once again not in the market only planning as of now.
I think Pistonheads had one for sale a while ago. Check it out. Post in the right forum there. Funny you have a Mosler. I was going to suggest you consider getting one of those! You say you want a race car for the street. Caparo cannot be street legal in the US. And if you were to figure out some loophole, you would be playing with your life and your financial future if anything were to go wrong. People have a nasty habit of suing in this country...but there are plenty of private estates and tracks and unused sections of road that you could find. I would get a TVR Sagaris and put a Corvette motor in it. There are people who offer this for about $150k (IIRC). It would be street legal (it's just a Vette as far as the DMV is concerned) and it would be a lot more reliable, parts and servicing would not be a problem, it would be really exotic, etc., etc. Dunno about the max revs, but maybe you could have the limiter raised if it was lower than 10k. If you planned to drive it on the street, I would recommend an ABS module as well. You never know when you have to really jam on the brakes, and I have met only one person who could do threshold braking in emergencies. He was a racer.
