I found a website (lsited below) with many pictures of it. Apparently it was project 621 and later got a chassis number 16601. I remember seeing it as a red roadster on the cover of Automobile Quarterly as a roadster. I couldn't figure out if it predated the '63 Stingray but there's lots of similarities. The pictures on the webspage show it proudly being displayed as a green coupe so I guess somebody (pininfarina? Bertone?) redid it as a coupe? Was that official or just some private owner's request? Does anybody know when and how it was found and what it sold for? I think the car's value now is as early Giugiaro since at least two of his earlier cars (Canguro, Spicup) have emerged as superstars at Villa d'Este so now that's the new-new thing to have a Giugiaro design done before he started Ital Design.

Love to hear about the history or your opinions of styling of this car

Besides loving it....my first reaction was the Bertone styling design done with the Porsche 911...and I see a little Lancia Fulvia in the coupe top...and yes, the overall shape/dimensions are very 'vette' like. Curious to know its present value.

I prefer the version sans the exposed headlights but that probably wasn't an operational version? Never been a fan of the drooping high beams look.

The pop ups were later used on the Alfa Montreal, Bertone also used them on the Iso Lele/ Series II Grifo and the Lamborghini Jarama. It's a electrically controlled pneumatic valve. They all use the same parts.

So there's an air compressor on board?

Maybe I used the wrong term, it is powered by the vacum off the manifold. Here is the electric control valve

    Well that sucks, hopefully ...

On a Lambo v12 at least, vacuum is in very short supply even with the tank for the braking system which they wouldn't tap for headlamps. So if your foots to the floor don't try and put up the headlamps. Kind of reminds me of my old 39 Plymouth sean that had overhead vacuum operated wipers. They stopped when you floored which was almost all the time in a huge sedan with with a flat head six cylinder that made whopping 82 HP!

Some guys have now added electric vacuum pumps to vintage lambos so as to get more consistent braking out of the servos.

On the LHM Maseratis there's a 2600 PSI hydraulic system to do this sort of stuff. :D LOL

I didn't know the chassis was the same, however Tom Tjaarda designed the 1962 spider and the 1963 coupè for Pininfarina, who introduced both to the Turin motor show.

    Both versions are quite striking.
