I think the launch in the 458 is a great option when you drag race or just for fun. Not quite as good as my 911 Turbos PDKs launch. But very close. Try and it out. I think you will love it. I believe with launch control you can get a 3 second flat 0 to 60. Glad that Ferrari has that as an option on the 458.
I tried it a couple of times and agree that it will knock off a few tenths. But I suspect that frequent use will take a toll on the powertrain.
Thank you all. I am competing with my 458 next month, cathegory GT, in a Hillclimb. In the time I used to race there were no "launch" or eletronics in the cars. Should I use Launch? Its a 2.8km hillclimb... Accept gladly all advises!
I don't think I have the credentials to advise you, but my sense is that launch will gain you about 2/10 of a second out of perhaps 100 seconds for the run. So if you intend to compete seriously, you should use it. However if it is only for sport, you can do very well without it. If you decide to use it, I do advise practicing ahead of time.
Hi good friends of the forum Please tell me what's de real time ( from owners perspective, the one that counts ) that the 458 Italia makes from 0-60 mph / 0-100 kmh?! Many magazines say its 3.5, 3.4 some 3.0 and even 2.9. So what's the real time the owners have recorded? Thanks for the info PM

That was a cool run! I would love to hear your thoughts about what era of racing you enjoy more. The days when you were active with formula 1 I would assume that you have had a rough job and the cars were very difficult to drive. Do you think that paddle shifting is a great addition to racing? of course it gets faster times but do you miss manuals? What do you think about all the technical adds? I have the impression that today the burn and the passion is not as strong as it used to be and racing seems to get a more and more "common" sport with the easier cars to drive.
Niki Lauda used to think that too. When he was the team principal at the Jaguar F1 team, he tried his hand on a modern 900 HP F1 car. He spun 4 times within one lap and said afterwards that he was way wrong...
