after 1 month of ownership the frontlift has gone dead. message: frontlift system error, take car to ferrari workshop. anybody seen this before? thanks, peter
We have had zero issues with ours. However, I have seen/heard of this - from my understanding, when the system detects low hydraulic pressure or fluid it will shut down, or if it detects interference or requires too much pressure to move the actuators, all to protect the system. Likely causes can be low fluid (leak? loose fittings?) or perhaps some debris or interference. Like any hydraulic system, it prefers when it's used regularly. Last, some had ill-fitting caps, the FF even had a campaign on that. hope this helps. hopefully is an easy fix at dealer.
thanks. i have used it every day so far to get into/out of the garage. however i realized today that i had no issues without it. when i test-drove the 12C into my garage the car hit the bump no matter what the angle of attack was. peter
I got this message once early on when I activated the lift with the steering hard over in one direction or the other. I think the car was also at an angle (nose high) on my steep driveway. Puzzled, I straightened out the steering and tried it again and it worked. No other problems in the last 10k miles. I recall someone else on the forum having a similar issue. Does this pattern (steering hard over) fit your scenario?
no doesn't. it is a persistent issue. several restarts and driving for one hour did not make a change. the dealer will pick up the car tomorrow.....makes me worried. peter
if the steering is at an extreme lock, the mechanism can bind up due to the geometry; there is a post or two about that here. you can be annoyed, but would not worry, it is probably minor, definitely correctable and under warranty....good luck. keep us posted on what you find, all the cars with the lift option use a similar system, so would be good to know what the failure mode is
One time I pushed the lift button 3 times in succession by mistake and I got that message, when I shutoff the restarted the car it never happened again. I use the lift often and have almost 10K miles on the car now.
+1. This hydraulic lift system is becoming available on more and more cars, would be nice to know the failure mode.
It will be an easy fix and problem will be solved. Nothing to worry about. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
the dealer tells me that an air bubble was found in the hydraulic system (apparently it entered when they filled it up with fluid in the first place). the bubble grew under the extreme heat here in vienna (almost 40C) and put the lift system in tilt. they had to bleed it totally and refill it with fluid. tomorrow morning they will connect to the ferrari server in the factory to reset everything and then i am ready to go. hopefully... peter
new diagnosis: the hydraulik pump of the frontlifter is leaking fluid. the dealer has ordered a new one, it takes 2-4 days to arrive from maranello, then 1 day to put it in. theregoesmyweekenddriving---((( petr
Now it make sense, there must be a leak to introduce air bubble. Leaking hydraulic pump after 1 month, oh boy! Thanks again for the update. One more request, it would be nice to know the price of that hydraulic pump or the amount of labor to replace it. Please look on your invoice or ask the dealer when you pick up the car, if it is convenient of course.
the dealer (juergen keusch of vienna, austria, kudos to him) gave me his california for the weekend while my 458 italia is waiting for the replacement hydaulic pump to arrive from maranello. well, it is really hard to appreciate other cars when you own a 458....the cali feels heavy, a bit like the BMW M5 F10 i had, is much less agile around the corners than the 458, all in all not very exciting except in tunnels----)))) i much prefer the boxster S i test-drove recently, mainly for its agility. the only car that excites me at the moment it the 991 GT3........not even interested in the F12. peter
according to my dealer 1900euro + tax (20%). total with labour 3K euro. of course, it will be covered by warranty. p
Wait a minute! You guys get to say this with impunity ? I said it too and got crap for it. I am also a convert from the 991S family.
That is because no California fans have seen what we said yet ;p The California would be a very nice 2 seater GranCabrio.
Well then be prepared for some darts to be thrown at you. I still have the holes to show as a souvenir. But perhaps my mistake was to say it on the cali forum.
Are you not surprised that people would get pissed off if you went into the forum related to their car (not the one you own) and just started threads saying that their car sucks???? Anyway they are such different cars.... the 458 is amazing especially on track and makes the California feel like a softy ;-) But the Cali is much better if you want a DD that you can still enjoy on a track once in a while.
Best to ignore the trolls. I had a wonderful 2 years with my Cali and am looking forward to enjoying my Spider. I traded my Cali in last week due to a very favorable trade-in value and don't expect delivery of Spider until late December, early January. I already miss her very much.
