    Good day All,

Anyway, just documenting these cars, as they come up... Nice car and the paint looks fantastic!

There looks to be a nice Daytona Spyder in the back... I wonder if it is an original or a "cut" car?

    Cheers,

    Sam

I'm figuring that those of you that have databases are keeping up to date on these as they come along ;)

Having just bought one the price is interesting to me.

Does ANYONE have an idea what these cars are actually worth ?

I'll post pictures of mine ASAP - RHD, dark blue with tan interior, arrow straight with no rot whatsoever but 2 very minor paint blemishes and a couple of small chips, 51k miles, drives perfectly with everything working (other than the now repaired failed alternator). Has 90% complete tool kit and jack but no lead mallet to loosen knock-offs (I assume it should be a lead mallet - anyone got a spare for sale ?)

    I'm wondering - did I get a bargain ?

$46,000 for a '73 is very encouraging, even for those of us with the much less desirable fuel injected auto trans cars. If more 365's sell at this price, that would demonstrate a trend. But as of today this is an outlier, is it not, even for a German sale?

    Good day Russell,

Indeed I have seen this info too. However what I can say is that virtually all of the same cars have been for sale for over 2 years at these prices... To me this implies that either (a) the cars are not selling at these prices, or (b) the cars have been sold but the ad was not removed. Now if it were (b) I would expect the odd ad to be left up, but not all of them. Does this mean that these cars are not "worth" these prices? If my (a) assertion above is correct, then the "market" says no. But we all know how much it costs to reapir, maintain, restore, etc cars and so some of the prices are not unreasonable... but the general market seems to place a cap on these car's valuations independent upon what $$$ went into them.

Personally I wish I had the extra $$$, as I would be all over a few of these cars.... one of which recently sold for just over 40K Euro that was totally restored.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Poor you - I didn't realise that you have the 400 illness but no medicine at the moment. How long have you suffered this way and when do you intend to get medication ?

    Good day Russell,

I have suffered for a number of years now... however, this is mostly my doing, as I am looking for some particular medicine (ideally 365...carbs and Manual) and every time I find the right Doctor, he wants more than what I have to spend... alas... Also, it does not help that there are so few meds available...

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Hi Paul,

I was the high bidder (see post #9 in this thread) which states the following:

"A few weeks ago I was the high bidder on another one on ebay - I bid £20k max but ebay had me as the high bidder at only £13k (I'll NEVER understand how ebay bids work if the reserve isn't met). The car is 15 miles away from me so I went to see it and it is a really lovely older restoration - I was genuinely interested but the guy wouldn't budge on price and I just couldn't justify spending that much. He said he didn't need the money and wanted just to free up some space so if it didn't sell for his price he'd keep it - fair play to him I suppose."

It's all in their learning center
    Reserve price listings

"When you bid on an item with a reserve price, IF your maximum bid MEETS the reserve, it will AUTOMATICALLY INCREASE to meet that price."

If reserve isn't met, the auction ends when the clock runs out.

    Russ,
    Congratulations.
I too was following the ebay one and had the same thoughts as you on the seller's valuation (I too had contacted him - maybe he was trying to play us off against each other - didn't work, we both bought something else and he still has his space/ price problem).
Personally I don't see any real difference between 365GT4 and 400GT, don't understand the price difference.
The 400GTi and 412GT don't have the Weber sound or urgency so just appeal to a slightly different buyer. The 412 more refined but more complicated and potentially more expensive to run. Swings & roundabouts.
Supply & demand - what a wonderful mechanism.

The guy selling the car had that kind of "buy it if you like but that's the price - take it or leave it" attitude. Said he had loads of other cars (he did have a couple of others in the garage) but was a bit too offhand for my liking. Then his mate turned up and proceeded to tell me he had 50 cars including 246 Dino's, Daytona's, countless e-types etc and many more big money cars - all of which needed finishing but could be done in around a week. Being a natural cynic (like most of us i'm used to the smell of BS) so I asked a few probing question and turns out he meant they could ALL be finished in about a week. I thought "Yeah - right !!!" but said nothing as you never really know what people have collected and have hoarded away over the years.

Price is so hard to quantify for the entire series of cars - maybe the magic "365" number makes the earlier car more appealing to collectors but to me the 400GT was my preference and they seem to be rarer than 365's so should be valued higher IMO.

Funny really, personally I think that 400i's with TRX tyres look best of all due to the stance but like you much prefer the purity of carbs so that outweighs their smaller wheel/tyre combo. Plus the knockoffs on the 365 are great !!

Talking of knockoffs - my car came without a spinner removal tool - should it be a lead mallet or wrench of some kind (excuse my ignorance here) and does anyone have one available for sale ?
