Yup, that's still the best way to go. I don't always have the balls to pull it off though, but occasionally my need to get closer access overcomes my inhibitions. :)

Like the one day at Goodwood, the Revival where we snuck through a back door into the inner circle of the garage area. I was just about to "tackle" Stewart for an autograph and shoving the guy next to him out of the way as my friend pulled me back hard and gave me a stern look: "that guy next to him" was Lord March himself and we weren't wearing any of the VIP-inner circle badges....

PS: Very cool shots of the guys at the Glen. I'm jealous. That said, you should run them through a color correction software. Two of your pix after a quick run through one of the programs I use. Not perfect but a tad better:

Ron Howard is no fool, as his successful record shows. He also appears to be an enthusiastic F1 fan, so I'm hoping for the best.

Do you remember the Lear jet that buzzed the front straight before the race? Was about 100' above the track. Even at 8 years old I remember how insane that was....

Interesting that the ticket doesn't reference 'Formula 1' at all....

No, I don't remember that - maybe it made more of an impression on an 8-year-old than on a 23-year-old like myself! (It should have on me - I'm an aeronautical engineer, and was at that time as well.)

As for the faded photos, I still have the negatives - maybe I ought to dig them out and have a new set of prints made and put on a photo CD. That was my first year using an SLR, and I was still learning my craft.

I still have my ticket stubs, and the program, and (somewhere, in a tube) the poster, which was the same image as the program cover. (I actually have the 1978 USGP poster hanging up in my basement stairwell, proclaiming "Mario Andretti - Champion of the World"!)

F1 was truly a different world back then. I'll be curious to see Ron Howard's take on it.

My slides are long gone since but I digitized all of them onto multiple backups (in different physical locations in case of fire etc). As for the GPs I made each into its own foto book into which I also glued in the old ticket stubs.

Definitely was. And a much better world:
    - much more accessible for the fans (Just look at Kevin's pics)
    - much more variety amongst the car designs (again just look at those cars)
    - more eventful races

I still love F1 but I lament the world we lost. Probably true for all sports, which became truly big business and globalized. But still sad.

You can see Lord Hesketh in the 3rd trailer! Awesome. I saw on IMDB that Ilario Calvo is playing Luca di Montezemolo, that's very cool.

Very cool photographs from a very special year in Formula 1, thank you very much for sharing them with us. I am looking forward to this movie and being able to see some of my favorite Formula 1 cars of all time on the big screen.

Saw the movie last night at a special screening in Pebble Beach. It was fantastic. My wife who only knows about F1 from me watching it live and waking her up, loved it. My best friend and his wife he knew nothing about the movie, the history, F1 or the story also loved it.

It is accurate, entertaining and most off all fun. It does a service to F1! Ron Howard did a great job!

    Go watch it!!

The old Ebert site gives it but two stars. Admits that their view is contrary to most though.

I saw the movie last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors playing Hunt, and especially Lauda, were spot on. The details were very nicely done.

I can see the general movie public enjoying this movie, and the gearheads really liking it.

You should definitely go and see it. Wonderful film. Loved every minute of it. The cars looked and sounded great as expected and the acting was very good.

I just saw the movie a few hours ago, and considering how long I've been waiting for it, I was generally impressed.

You must realize that this is more of a human-interest movie than a racing movie, and the percentage of the movie that takes place on the track may disappoint some.

There are some liberties taken with facts, but that is to be expected, as this should properly be called a "docudrama". Ironically, most of those liberties involve things that took place during the actual races, but as those might constitute "spoilers", I won't mention them here. The cars are all accurate, with a couple of minor exceptions, and the fact that certain tracks stood in for others did not bother me. The use of CGI is controlled and effective (unlike "Pearl Harbor" and "Red Tails", for instance).

As the leads, Hemsworth and Bruhl are excellent; they look enough like the real drivers and act and sound like I remember them. Bruhl's capturing of Lauda's voice is so uncanny that I can see why some may think that Lauda dubbed his voice, but I've been assured that that was not the case. I've seen one review already putting Bruhl on the Oscar-watch list!

It's an interesting coincidence that I became a fan of F1 racing as a result of another racing movie that I saw in early 1967 (and I'm sure that you can guess which one!), and that the first two races I ever attended in person were the 1975 U.S. GP (won by Lauda) and the 1976 U.S. GP (won by Hunt). So that should give me the right to be ultra-critical, but while the movie is certainly not perfect, I am quite satisfied.

I loved it. I am a pistonhead. I have been to most of the tracks.

    Characters were great. 8+ on a scale of 1 -- 10.
