Sums it up nicely. Except that given all the recent news I think it is now more likely to happen than not.

The core of all this is really an unknown. What is the state of the relationship between Alonso and LdM...? We don't see what's behind the curtains. Maybe all this is to motivate Alonso to recognize who works for who. Maybe Alonso's outburst was tip of the iceberg and LdM over it and is going to make a point with the IceMan.

Eddie jordan also said at this point its basically a battle between ldm and the rest of the factory. Ldm doesnt want to take kimi because it will be an admission that he never should have let him go but all the higher ups want kimi back. They are desparate for a reliable ans strong driver to pair with alonso and possibly push him harder.

Surely alonso will move to red bull when vettel comes to ferrari in a couple years

Maybe. I still believe that Alonso retires once he gets a Ferrari WDC. If not then yes.

Imagine the amount of Oakleys needed to satisfy the two of them.

I just hope Ferrari will be competitive next year or they could prevent not one but two of the best drivers on the grid from battling for victory.

If the rumour is true then we might be in with a shot at a WCC for the first time in a few years. :)

I'd love to see Alonso and Raikkonen battle in the same car - it would be thrilling! :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

For me it'll be the first time I'm able to cheer for a Ferrari driver again since 2009...! I like Massa but he really is doing terrible currently (it was looking up late last year and beginning of this year...), and I still don't like Alonso (yes I really should subscribe RE our bet right about now!).
Agree except for #3. I'm sure Alonso gives a damn, hence him running to RB during Hungary pleading for a job ;).

I like the idea of Kimi being back to Ferrari, but somehow I just find it hard to believe...
    We'll see...hopefully soon (Monza?)

Back to present matters: time to open the thread for the Belgian G.P at Spa, gentlemen: if the weather forecast is to be believed, we'll get rain showers on sunday...exactly what a belgian Grand Prix needs...

"Kimi's a free agent. He still has options out there.

"There's a lot of things happening behind the scenes and I'm pretty confident he will be in F1 next year."

Asked specifically whether Ferrari were an option, he said: "Until they confirm their seats, my job is to speak to all the teams and see what's available."

Thats not quite the statement of we will tell you when we know.....I dont think Kimi to Ferrari is actually that close. It sounds more like Red Bull closed the door on him.

He has options. So do alot of traders in London, NY and Frankfurt.

BBC Sport - Kimi Raikkonen 'wants Ferrari return' claims Eddie Jordan - LdM is not sold according to this either.

Come on Kimi, we love you..it´s time to kick that spanish snake in the teeth....Luca, you are a great leader but you made 2 huhe mistakes...one was to let kimi go, the second was to let Santander´s money rule Ferrari...i know it was a lot...but it was atill a bad move.

    I count a few more:

    Forcing JT out
Forcing Schu to choose between staying with Kimi or leaving (as much as I love Kimi, I'm sure Schumacher would've done the deed in 2008. With Kimi having to adapt to the bridgestones from Michelins I'm sure Schu would have had 2007 also...)

perhaps..but i also believe Kimi could have made it in 2006 if he was at ferrari. in 2005 and 2006 Kimi was from another planet, and perhaps thinking "should i stay or should i go" Shumi made a couple of mistakes in 2006 that ultimatly costed him the title....truth is in those 2 years, IMO Kimi was clearly the best, the fastest and the one who made less mistakes. I still belive that in terms of natural talent, Kimi is head and shoulders above Alonso.

I agree and interesting thought on 2006. I still maintain that prime for prime, Kimi was probably the fastest of the modern drivers. At a test session in Mugello, before Kimi started in F1, Schumacher watched him for a few laps and said ''he's a future F1 champ for sure''.

DC still says it these days that the speed Kimi has/had when they where teammates was fantastic, inclusive of his ability of setting up the car and pointing to the engineers what needs changing.

What many don't get is that just because he appears disinterested doesn't mean he's not or lost all motivation...:)

Same quotes from the BBC link and only adds to the fact that Ferrari are in no way ready or have signed anything with him. His agent is shopping around and his only option is Ferrari if he leaves Lotus. Given the continuing lack of wind tunnel capability Ferrari are dealing with his desire for Ferrari provide nothing more than what his current seat provides at this time.

This is all very very speculative. I noticed he is not saying he will leave Lotus just yet. If Im them I put him on the carpet and ask if he cares to even drive for the team anymore, as the press makes it sound like he is for sure leaving. If he intends to leave Lotus should let him go now. Fickle little Finn that he is. There is NO assurance at all his life will improve or be better at Ferrari. His agent is talking wayyyyyyyyyyy too much.

Add to this the fact that, if my memory serves me well (this is old information and I would have to dig a lot of magazines out before being able to cross-check) his manager gets a very big chunk of what Kimi is earning (isn't it something like 33% ?? needs to be verified), so keep in mind that Kimi is not the only one interested in having a big deal done...

His fee matters but his mouth is doing a dis-service to the team Kimi is currently working for. He should simply shut up. The more he talks the less credible any move sounds to me. Again Red Bull shut the door on him and he probably really wanted the seat.

Agreed; since the Red Bull doors has been closed on them, they do no longer hold all assets in hand. They are now passive and depend on others; and should they continue to talk as much as they do, Kimi might as well end up, as we used to say in old french: "Grosjean comme devant"
(the pun on Romain's name is intended...the expression means you had high hopes and believed to have all cards in hand, until you woke up holding nothing at all)

Wow, can we please stop with this "Santander's money rules Ferrari" BS? That myth has been debunked time and again yet we still have the same people posting it over and over.

Lol, and why would that be? The only thing Kimi is "head and shoulders" above Alonso on is that anti-dandruff shampoo he does commercials for.

I have my doubts it's going to happen, but Kimi going to Ferrari would be awesome for many reasons. If it happened, lots of people on here would really have their feet in their mouths. After watching the same people post the same crap about Alonso for (literally) years, it would be hysterical to have Alonso take up the Kimi challenge.

If Kimi doesn't go to Ferrari it will be: Alonso can't handle a strong teammate! What a snake!

Yet when he doesn't go to Red Bull we never hear any of that written about Seb. Funny how that works.
