I know that this may be regarded as a sacrilege by some but I´m thinking about installing seatbelts/safety belts in my Sebring Series II-66. At least lap-belts. Strenghtened by the knowledge that the Maserati factory presumably did install lapbelts on customer requests- according to one of Frank Mandoranos very dry and intertaining Youtube clips on the -60 3500GT #708. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcgDPwKrLLo]Maserati 3500GT #708 Interior 3 of 3 - YouTube[/ame] Could anyone point me in the direction of how this can be done with in-period methods and with in-period hardware. Has anyone done it "properly" in the US or Europe? Kind regards, Jan
I'm not sure how it is done but I asked the guys restoring my '59 to look into it. I don't care if it isn't "period," it is a necessary improvement in my mind. I don't want to drive a car without a lap belt at a minimum. They said it wouldn't be easy to mount it to the tubular chassis.
Most I have seen bolted to the rear floors using a big washer on the underside. I've used seatbeltplus in the past and they offer a mounting kit with the big washer Buy Replacement Seatbelts, Seat Belts, Retractable Seat Belts, and Seatbelt Extenders @ SeatBeltsPlus.co Ivan
I am looking at "quick fit safety belt service" . They make belt kits for classic European cars and have a belt kit for the Maserati 3500. My Sebring 1 has seatbelts although I don't if they are original. Regardless, I think it makes good sense to install unless you just tow your car around on a trailer.
Thank you all for your replies to my ponderings. I do not tow my car. ljdamore, you mention seatbelts on your Sebring 1. Are the lapbelts or 3 point belts?
Just for reference, I've used these people in the past with great results: FDTS Ltd - Index Page They probably won't know much about a specific Maserati model, but if you know what you are looking for, then they can produce results that match period items. You can even send them original latches and they can produce the belts with proper materials.
Perhaps you contact these guys, but I don' t have personal experience with them. Welcome to VintageSeatBelts.com
Thank you kindly all Maserati friends around the world for you help. I recieved the most friendly response from quickfit safetybelt service in the UK and will continue with them. They sometimes supply belts kits to Bill McGrath Ltd. That is convincing enough for me. Hi Jan, Sorry I have been away. The seat belts in my Sebring were lap belts. I suspect they are original. Best, Lou
No problem Lou. Seems that lapbelts are the best solution/option/compromice. Interesting but not surpricing with original belts in your Sebring. They could be specified frpm the factory as Frank M´s #708 youtube clip shows. Is you Sebring a series I or II? (doesn´t matter for the belt matter, just curious) Kind regards, Jan
Hi Lou, I´m trying to determine the best fix-points for the belts. I would therefore be very interested to hear from you regarding the fixpoints in your Sebring. As I´m, so far, a "rookie"I can not sent you a person mail..... so if it´s not too much trouble please send an email to [email protected] so that I can return with some photos and a drawing attached. Thereafter we can compare. Kind regards and thank you kindly beforehand, Jan
