You may be right on the long term value of the FGT or wrong who knows :) I do know they are great to drive and have a timeless look. My FGT has been virtually perfect over the years since I bought it new.

When I bought the car I called and talked to the engineering ream that engineered the FGT.
Ford was having trouble at the time and I wanted to tell them what a great job they have done.

They told me they had race tested the production cars to 211 mph then backed it down to a 201 mph top speed for the Consumer cars. Most importantly it was the first American car that felt and handles as well as European offerings. It was designed to compete with vith Ferrai 360 which it did in a powerful way. Your post states this quite nicely.

Great posting. I do believe that Ferrari makes good cars. The fit and finish of the F cars on the three I have owned has been World class. Most cars today have good fit and finish. They must just to compete

    Lee,

Thanks for the kind words. Your car collection (from what I have seen here) is very impressive and you are truly a car guy with no agenda.

If you look at the paint quality on a GT and compare that to the paint quality on a modern Ferrari they are worlds apart. The GT has smooth beautiful paint and the Ferraris often have orange peel or less than perfect paint. 99.9% of the population would never notice but once you know what you are looking it it can drive you crazy. The body panels on Ferraris also leave a lot to be desired. Panel fit is generally good but on the 430 and 458 cars it isn't hard to spot ripples and panel imperfections. The Ferrari interiors are a thing of beauty but there are always little details that bother me. The smell is probably enough to overcome any defects though.

My 360 Modena had orange peal and a body aberation as they called it. I asked the dealer to wet sand the paint finish. The dealer told me that would hurt the value of the car because the car is hand painted by craftsman. Then I said why not get craftsman who can paint. This is your point and it is correct.

I do not remember any issues with my 430. I have my 458 in the garage and I looked it over and is very close to perfect. Wait I did have a hose pop off the car spilling oil then csausing smoke, sparks and a bunch of discontent.

My Ford Gt was much better when I picked up the car. I had a paint score because the drivers door was hung poorly. That was rehung and the paint retouched. I also had a tach and a speedometer fail and they had to replaced on the FGT.

I think I am getting depressed :) I think I do not want to argue either side.

Thanks for the polite comment on my collection.

It's one thing to swing you pole and brag on your own car(s) as being the best ever just as my beautiful SPF GT40 is. It's another to actually have serious debates that one nice car like the GT is so superior to another nice car like a 458. I mean for chits sakes people. There are people living under a bridge right now trying to figure out how to get their next meal. Enjoy our cushy blessed existence and try not to be so serious about things which is all cars are. That said, I'm going to head into the garage and change out some transaxle fluid on what is by all accounts, the finest automobila art form, the SPF GT40 MkI, that has ever been know by mankind. Sorry about your luck GT/FCar owners.

Look... the Ford GT, a nice adaptation of the original that actually looks much better than the revision, is a really nice looking and performing car.

And, the Superperformance GT40 version is NOT a Ford GT. It's another copy, like a replica Cobra is not a Shelby Cobra. Sorry, it is.

The Superperformance is better than a 458? Ummmm..... no. Swing you schlong all day long but you're talking to the wrong guys. Replicas don't go well over here.

Don't start a statement with the word "Look". It generally means you're about to spew a bunch of nonsense that you know people are going to stop listening to before you have caught your first breath.

When you say replicas don't go over well here, what you meant to say was they don't go over well with you. I am a math major so believe me when I tell you. I've done the calculations for Y where Y = those who share your lack of taste. The results keep coming back as zero. Sure there are those like Issac and Gerblyman who lament my praise of the finest car in existence, but I assure you they are closet admirers who either lack the means to own or the skills to pilot such a work of art.

Enough about my beautiful SPF GT40 MkI... what do you drive?

    LOL!!!!

Well, at least I don't have to explain my car is a phony when asked.

"Hey.. is that a real Ford GT 40?"

"No son, it's not. But I look really cool in it".

    Luke,

Yes the SPF is a beauty. I know a guy called Lance that is fairly involved with them and they are great but still have the limitations of being a 45+ year old design.

On another note: Isn't there a thread for GT40s and replicas? This one is about the Ford GT and Ferrari

Yeah, you're right. I don't want to be responsible for making this comatose thread any more interesting than it already is. The Ford GT is great. Ferrari's suck yea!!! Carry on...

The SPF gt-40 is most certainly a real car. I think you are being a bit of a pest. I think a rapid drive in an SPF will leave you weak in the knees and in need of a cigarette!!

Now with that said...back tithe discussion of resale value for the fgt.

It's a replica. We were discussing the Ford GT, which is not.

Right! One is hand built by a company in South Africa who own the trademark to exacting standards that are 95% interchangeable with the original and come with an original P VIN number. The other is a hand built facsimile by a company that doesn't even exist anymore that shares nothing in common with the original save it's loosely based shape. Which one is the "replica"? Both are great cars but I think you should have began your statement with the word "Look!" again because everything you just stated was complete BS once again. Let's hope that at least some small percentage of your 36 million posts on the innerweb have some factual basis. At this point it's hard to find any that do.

I think I'd rather be explaining my manly GT40 than why I was driving a convertible foofoo car made by a company who is known for producing something called a Scuderia or anything that starts with "La". What is a Scuderia anyway an STD? LaFerrari? Really?

    Great cars.

Why do you think the Dinos have got so much traction lately? The value of these cars is growing. Why?

I like all cars but I tend to go to the original cars. I did own a kit 65 Cobra and enjoyed it alot. No wrong or right. I think we all knew that :)

Luke, I love your car. I love the GT too. Same with most of the Ferrari's. But bashing Ferrari isn't going to gain much traction and just cause issues with this forum.

I enjoy your pics and videos, and respect the amount pride in your car, but tone down the combative posts some. Doesn't do anyone any good.

I don't think I've ever encountered a group with which sarcasm goes so completely lost on or who take themselves so seriously. When you start lecturing the masses above who deride and insult then you might have ground to stand upon when lecturing me.

David great to hear from you and native troy as well.

Luke just does this for awhile then disappears, get banned from the forum, then comes back.

He is just playing not really a bad guy, just immature and fiesty :).

The funny thing about sarcasm is that it needs to be used sparingly and appropriately in order for it to be both effective and appreciated. Laying it on thick all the time just means you're an ass.
