The pictures proves he doesn't realise what he is talking about unfortunately....

Like the glass or not is a personal taste but comparing this to the glass on the LaF?!?!?!

    Hello,

I accept your opinion that you don't like this. Since everyone has their own taste. So you don't like it, you said your mind, and we accept this.

But that you write that the lines of the car are ruined, that is absolutely not true. While designing this hood, special care was taken to keep these lines. I can imagine that what you don't like is that this part comes from Capristo and not Ferrari. Would Ferrari have this hood from the very beginning, you would have found this wonderful. And if that is so, then this has nothing to do with taste, but everything do to with if you are willing to accept a modification on a Ferrari or not. And when I look at your argument that it looks cheap, then it is clear to me that you belong to those, who do not accept a change. Since at the production of this hood, only the most precious materials were used. Like for example, prepreg carbon, baked in the autoclave, then very thin, real glass (3mm) and so the hood could be lighter than even the original one.

We have spoken to many designers and among them were designers who work for Pininfarina. And these have confirmed that this hood flows into the design of the 458 Spider as if it were the original. Even Ferrari itself responded positively regarding this hood, and the selling numbers of this hood confirm, that your opinion is maybe one from thousand. So, I don't need to be concerned about this. But still, thank you very much for your opinion.

In Austria, there was a large meeting of sports cars around 6 weeks ago. We drove there with our 458 Spider. At this meeting there were 5 other 458 Spiders and 4 of these, ordered this hood. After the owners, saw our car, they did not anymore like their own cars from behind. I am also sure that in your case it would be that if you saw both cars, with original and Capristo hood, then you would change your mind.

One man's meat is another's poison , so goes the saying . Put simply, you can't please everyone . I like the Capristo v much except its price , given that I still have to engage skilled labour to paint and install it . I won't feel comfy to let non Ferrari people do the job , which means a few thousand bucks to follow on top of the fixed cost of the hood . Why don't they make it in waved Carbon Fiber so as to save the paint job ?! It will look special too.

    Hello Arcangel,
You are right, it is impossible to please everyone. But it is also good to hear so many opinions. Regarding the price, you are right, it is an expensive part, since only the best materials are used. And a lot of work per hand is also in that part. But there is good news, since approx. 3 weeks we have a promo that who orders the hood, automatically receives the other parts free-of-charge. These are the 2 side covers, lock cover where you can put the 458 Spider logo, and the airbox. These parts you can buy these with clear lacquer from us, or raw so that you can put the lacquer yourself. We can also supply this hood finished with lacquer. We have sent a finished lacquered one to the US approx. 3 weeks ago. The hood is exactly built, so that you need not to adjust anything. The installation can be done by anyone and within 2 hours, all parts are in.

In the meantime it is so, that this hood can also be ordered by many official Ferrari dealers in the US. And also there, the same promo exists that when you order the hood, all the other parts are included. I would advise everyone who is interested, to get the hood prepared for the lacquer. The bottom part is in carbon with clear lacquer, and the top side is primed. So that the person only needs to lacquer.

Appreciate the feedback and no doubt the effort put into your product. For me, the "cheap" part is not materials but the new geometry around the window lines (flat or not) does not look like it belongs - clearly a post factory change.

You know doubt have plenty of customers and I congratulate you on that. Best success in business and I am clearly in the minority view on this product. But that is what markets are all about.

You are on to the core item here. If Ferrari had intended a glass window on the Spider it would be more than a hole in the existing hood. The hood and top cover panels would be designed differently for a more centrally located window (maybe even two glass parts) that complements (not chops) the lines of the car with the glass perimeter. Look at the LaFerrari glass for example.

    Just my view

So I'm the North American recipient of the glass rear deck lid. They are correct in saying this piece has the quality of a factory ferrari part. It's also beautiful. The rear of the car is transformed and much more aesthetically pleasing. The sea of a single monotone color is broken up and it creates better flowing lines that match the design of the car. It does not look like a cheesy add-on part. It gives a small peek into the wonderful engine compartment that was hidden in the spider. It's like a model wearing a revealing piece of lingerie. It gives you a small taste of what lies underneath making you want to see more. It is a beautiful piece and the best part is if you own a spider and you don't like the part then don't get it. My car has been shown at car shows and the Ferrari uneducated cannot tell its not a factory part and the ones who know All seem to like it better with the glass than without it.

I have to say the quality of the part looks great and I do like how it looks compared to stock. I also like the 4 vents as opposed to 3. This is saying a lot because this may be one of the only if not the only "aftermarket" part I actually like on a Ferrari. Congrats on a what I consider a huge success in design. Also thanks to mayor for his help in making this possible for US customers with the SAT Nav.

Installation was about a three hour job with two people. One of my autobody buddies came over and helped. Definitely a two person job. About an hour for the carbon engine stuff including the badging. Two hours to remove the old lid and install the new one. The hardest part is panel gaps and adjusting the deck lid lock mechanism. For me personally the hardest part was trying not to mark up the factory painted mounting bolts and washers and then later to reinstall them to align the painted and non-painted surfaces perfectly. Dead give away that this wasn't a factory part would be the misaligned paint marks in the mounting bolts.

Doesn't really need a dealership for the install. If you send it out for paint the body shop you pick would easily install it. Most will want the car for paint matching anyway. If you have a dealer close they would happily lighten your wallet for you.

Have you ever thought about ordering the hood in Carbon Fiber clear lacquer finish inside and out ? That seems to match perfectly with your black top .

How many pre posts "ugh" and how many post posts "wow" ------life. At least it gave everyone an opportunity to express themselves, evidencing the more time anyone of us has the more posts are on the thread. Some seem to have nothing else to do (maybe good for them). Still, some will want and others not, nothing new. IMO look very nice and compared to the coupe, the Spider really does need "something". Best

Hello 458trofeo! yes, that's right. I'm Antonio Capristo and first have to apologize for my bad English.

During office hours, I have my posts written by Elaine. She is an employee in our office who speaks English very well. But if she is not here, then I have to have help from Google Translator and sometimes it is not translated so well.

But in the meantime, I heard that you're an Italian and had much success worldwide. And I'm always happy to hear that someone from my country is successful worldwide. So it is a great honor for me to write here with you.

    Hello Otis,

I'm very happy that you are satisfied with it. But I already saw your emails when I was on vacation, where you wrote how happy you are with your car now. Those are the moments that satisfy me, where a customer is satisfied with our product. Should you have any questions, then please contact me.

What I would have done, is make the 2 brackets of the gas feathers under the hood black. Then, the satellite antenna, I would not have left red but also shiny black. The green socket of the satellite antenna, you should try to hide under the cover. In case, the socket does not fit there, then paint it black. Those are things that I would have done, but in the end, you have to like it and that is what counts.

Many thanks again that you decided for our product.

    Hello Otis,

I also think like that. The under side in carbon looks very nice because if you open the hood, then you see many parts in carbon. Airbox, side covers, lock cover. And when you look on the hood, it is also in carbon. It all looks very valuable. But the outer side in carbon does not look decent anymore, and for my taste, I find that the outer color should be completely maintained. But maybe, the outer side in carbon also looks good. Before the 458 Spider I had the coupe. There I put on a tank cover in carbon. On the first day, I did not like it as much, it looked unusual. In the middle of all that red, a black spot in there. But after 2-3 days, I liked it better and better, and I could not imagine it any other way. The black tank cover had to stay on. Maybe, the hood with outer side in carbon would also look that good.
