The first picture is the original Campagnolo wheel with original centre hub cover, the second picture is a reproduction on the same wheel but slightly different font style and size on the wheel itself.

The centre hub cover has the word Campagnolo are is a very good copy.

    Hi Antony

PM me if you need more info although I am sure Iain will be able to help if you need a set.

the Repro centre hub covers are a very good match, note the original circlip holding the cover in situ. These are no longer made as far as I know.

I just received a set from Lyle Tanner, I can send pics if you like. I believe that they are still made at the original foundry. The foundry had a major issue earlier this year and had quite a backlog. I ordered my Campys in January and received them this week. I think that they are now caught up with production and would not take too long to receive. They look great and I look forward to comparing them to the real deal at the Vail show next month.

Original Campagnolo were generally sand cast. Went to the factory for a visit and a massive (at least for me) Alfa Romeo wheel order that I still have for GTA's.

By then, it was not Campagnolo anymore, but Tecnomagnesio.

What amazed me, was the male plugs to make the indentation in the sand...
really artisan stuff, and the lightest wheels of the times.

I wish now I had photos.

    Regards, Alberto

4 of my wheels say Dino and the spare says Fiat.
Should I go to the trouble of replacing the Fiat one?

    Cromdora or Campagnolo?

I didn't think Campagnolo wheels had "dino" or "Fiat" cast in to the mouldings

I agree, that's right, they didn't. Outofpocket is talking about the standard wheels.

Fiat for early Dino's (L, M series), Dino for later Dino's (E series). If to be judged, that would be incorrect and likely noticed.

original campy wheels had "dino " script cast in the wheel as well as "campagnolo ". they had a strong sandcast finish compared to the smooth finish of the repros.

Early E series (up to mid '72 at least) did not have Dino on the Cromodoras. The Dino script on these wheels only came in when Fiat ended production of their Dino models.

I have a NOS set of the old sand cast Campy's and they all have "DINO" and "CAMPAGNOLO" on the castings.

In Italy, there has always, ONLY, been a single Magnesium foundry in ALL of Italy-the "old Campagnolo foundry"
That has been accquired via M&A and was renamed "Technomagnesio"
It is defgacto, the same place, utilizing more modern and better casting procedeures-therein lies the differences between todays merchandise, and that which was made 40-50 years ago...

    A few questions:

    1) I notice images with and without the "Campagnolo" script. What is on the latest batch? Are all the Campy repro wheels made by the same company? Any plans to put the "Dino" script on?

    2) Why is there such a huge price difference between Superformance ($1162) and Lyle Tanner ($1850)? Any other vendors?

    3) Any known plans to make a Campy 16" wheel like the Cromodora?

Thanks Andrew, we all learn something new everyday. Were these on a 206, 246 or Fiat dino?

I have no idea if these companies are planning to remake all variations or increase the size, that would be difficult. As for the price, this is possibly all down to profit or higher base cost, it pays to shop around, I have come across huge differences and ebay is the worst place for price variations

246 E-series - bit tough to fit on a 206 with the knockoff hub :)
I learn something 206/246 Dino related every day, there were so many changes over production... it's an OCD playground.
