Does the front of the Speciale seem higher than the standard Italia (which already seems high)? Maybe it's just the front design, but it really looks like it's way too high. There's gotta be 10 inches of clearance under there!

Just curious : how many here already booked one?
If the basic price will not be crazy (I mean max 25% of increase will work for me), I will confirm my booked slot as a firm order..
We expect (me and my dealer ..)around 30/35.000 euro over the standard one. Design(at about 80%) and
expecially tech.specs (100%) satisfy my needs..

I don't see how it looks like the Ford GT. The GT's roof is almost level with it's rear end/haunches...the 458 has a pronounced greenhouse (similar to the volumes of the Enzo really).

But what has Ferrari given us?

With all the little winglets and scoops, Ferrari has focussed on a car for POSING!

Look at what Pininfarina with the design changes for the CS (360)-- they made subtle exterior changes while Ferrari improved the weight, the intake and exhaust, the suspension and the braking and handling.

Of course with the CS, on the interior, they gave poseurs something too, a badge listing the Drivers Championships and Constructor wins!

The 458 Speciale won't have a bragging badge on the inside.

Spot on. That's what the 458S is all about and it will most likely be a lot of fun to drive both on and off the track. Cherry on the cake would have been if the package it comes in would look stunning. Don't get me wrong ... it's not hideous but the standard 458 looks better imo. But that's personal. Ferrari proved in the past that they can make an aerodynamically more efficient car that looks better than the base design it was derived from. The 360 CS, 430 Scud and certainly the 599 GTO confirm this in my opinion.

I'll reserve final judgement until I have seen it in the flesh and have driven one.

I'll be the first to admit that I buy Ferrari's to drive them. So performance, handling, sound ... they are all first on my list. But include looks as well. I will never buy a car if I don't like the way it looks.

I'm not Adrian Newey, but I'd wager that those winglets assist greatly with aerodynamics. The Speciale is probably much more stable at high speed than the CS.

None of us can argue that each iteration of Ferrari incorporates the "latest" technology. But why do we buy them?

How many ike the "idea" of owning a Ferrari (raise your hands)?
How many would buy a Ferrari, say over a Mclaren or another (arguably) equal or superior car, simply because it is a Ferrari?

What percentage of Ferrari owners regularly "race" their Ferrari and/or frequently drive the car over 125mph? Unless you track the car regularly or should be jailed for reckless driving, the "latest technology" is unlikely to be fully utilized or even noticed. That does not mean we don't want it. However, I susupect most of us buy a Ferrari for that unique visceral "feeling" one experiences and is seldom matched by any other marque, or enjoy "pride" of ownership, respecting the heritage and mystique. There are a number of Ferrari models and I suspect those who buy each differ from one another as is the case with other brands. Some of us worship the brand, others buy to add to their stable. Some drive their cars on weekends and others daily. However, few can argue that the Ferrari is "over engineered" for the majority of owners. However, we never want "those other guys" to say Ferrari fell behind.

Personally, I like the looks of the 458 but did not at first. I had the same experience when looking at the 430 when trading in my 360. The "thing" about Ferrari's, we nit pick them to death and then fall in love all over again. Best
