So I took my 458 into the dealers to do a check, they found an error code being thrown in the exhaust manifold (nfi if that's true). They said one of the valves were stuck open (different valve to whats in the exhaust I believe). Anyway they did a software upgrade, car runs smoother but I have lost all the burbles on the overrun! So annoyed!!!

How can I get it back? What are my options?

What annoyed me the most is I told the delear over and over that they cannot not lose the burble! They promised this wouldn't happen but of course it disappeared....

I believe my valves in exhaust are already open (both outer pipes only vent exhaust when idling) so not sure what else to do. Ill admit the car is running smoother though

If I were you , i would ask them them to open up the valve again to regain that macho sound or burbles as you put it .

If the valve that was stuck open was an engine exhaust valve (i.e. an exhaust valve in one of the cylinders and not the valve that switches the exhaust from the center exhaust pipe to the outside exhaust pipes), the burble you were hearing was gasoline burning in your exhaust system rather than in the affected cylinder. Burning gasoline produces power in the cylinder, but just produces potentially destructive noise in your exhaust. I know that we all like exhaust sounds, but you don't want to achieve it by leaving an exhaust valve open.

So the question is what other ways can I achieve more burble and pop on the overrun? Will a new aftermarket exhaust make any difference?

Can't be an exhaust valve. Is there a valve in the pre-cat on the end of the heads?

I have a Novitec cat-back exhaust. It burbles at least as much as the stock item if not more. The source of it must be further up the exhaust stream.

My 2010 does the same as this poster. On this forum owners have complained about the 2012 &13 sound versus the 2010 &11. I do not know if there is a difference but there was a thread on this subject.

I drove my friend's Spider the first night he took delivery and the exhaust was softer and tamer than my Cali (baffles open). He said it got better over time. I'm asking to have my lines pulled when I take delivery of the Spider but do you feel stock exhaust sound is aggressive already?

Trying to figure out where I want more noise.

In my neighborhood I use WET mode to keep the noise down. No complaints so far. I switch to WET mode when talking on the phone otherwise neither party can hear squat.

In the twisties I use RACE mode and the revs are over 5k...it's loud and sounds wonderful.

On the 4L highway I am listening to music. Usually in 7th gear SPORT mode with the top down.

On 2L highways I am in RACE mode and can hear the joy of the exhaust when passing, downshifting, etc.

Cold start the exhaust is very noisy for about 5 min until the engine warms up. Sounds great. No burble EXCEPT on cold starts. WET mode in the neighborhood (see above).

Only place that I can see where more noise would be nice is at a car event to impress the other car people there. LOL So far I have only been to one car event since purchase. People were impressed w/o more noise. From inside the car the 458 Spider sounds better than my F355 GTS and 360 Spider, both with Tubis. Sounds better than the Cali I test drove. My conclusion is that needing more noise from the car is so rare that it is not worth it in neither time nor treasure.

Please note: My spider has the black Sports Exhaust option. Not supposed to make a differnce in sound. My spider sounds better than my friends 2012 Italia that I drove. Putting the top down or lowering the back window on the Spider with the top up is a feast for the ears.

afaik the only 458's that had the burbles on the overrun were the pre-2011 software update cars, mine is a 2010 :) :) burble and pop and flame city :) :)
