I just purchased a rear challenge grill for my 360, the dealer says it came off a challenge racing series car. It looks the same as all the others to me, I noticed it had slightly bigger holes and he said no, we compared it to a challenge grill for the 360 and they are slightly bigger, barely noticeable but they are.

My question is that there are 2 holes in the lower left side for what he said was a challenge badge, I have been poking around google and it looks to me like the challenge stradale had a badge but on the upper right side. I can't find ANY picture with anything on the lower left. This is a official Ferrari part so I know something had to go there, but what all the grills I see have nothing or the stradale name in upper right.

The holes I hope will be barely noticable, they are not as big as the 2 for the cavallino.

Either way for the price he offered installed ! there was no way I was not doing it.

Now what to plug those 2 holes with ? I am not sure I would feel right putting a challenge badge on my plain 360 modena and from what I see it would be in the wrong place anyway. I suppose I could try and talk my friend with a cnc plasma to cut out a Modena from stainless and put it there. I think I will just live with the 2 holes, but I wont know how it really looks until Friday when I pick up the car (I am more of a function over cosmetics guy, but I have my limits on cosmetics).

What badging might have gone there ? were there really different sized holes in various grills (from Ferrari, I know there were manufacturers that changed things) ? what did I buy ?

As far as I'm aware, there were only 2 360 rear grilles from Ferrari, the Challenge Stradale, which will have emblem holes on the upper right side (as you said) and the normal 360 grille which will only have holes for the cavallino.

The Challenge Stradale grille is made from slightly lighter material than the stock 360 grille but in either case, it shouldn't have any other holes. My suspicion (if this is a genuine Ferrari part) is that someone has drilled the holes for a badge of their own?

A CS grille has bigger holes in the mesh and it's made of aluminium rather than steel.
Any superfluous holes could be filled by welding but the grille would need to be painted afterwards.

I would have to agree with this assessment.

Here are two pics of true "challenge" cars from the back.

CS is not a challenge race car. There looks to be a rear grill that has its own part number for a challenge car. Who knows if it fits or not, or why it's a different part number. The part diagram only has the cavallino, and no other badges. Racers do all sorts of weird things... Maybe someone drilled some holes for a custom 'something' and it does actually fit the street car... Who know.

You sure they didn't just install it upside down? Not sure if that's possible, but does the holes in the lower left look like the same position as where the Challenge Stradale badge would be if you reversed it?

If it's from the dealer who's been trying to jack you around, I'd return it and buy one elsewhere. As the others have said, nothing (afaik) gets mounted on the left side.

I will have the part number on Friday when I pick up the car and also take pics.

I tend to agree that someone must have drilled holes for mounting something since i can't find any pic on the net to show that something went there. But if they did drill holes, they also went to the trouble of repainting the entire grill extremely very well.

My wife said if the holes really bother me, she will TIG it and I can repaint it (actually I would powder coat it, my oven can handle that size). But they are really small holes, one is barely visible as it is in a exiting grill hole just offset a little. The second one took out a I have no idea what to call it, the space between two holes ? so its more noticeable. Both are much smaller then the 2 holes for the cavallino.

It is the same dealer but at this price...no way its going back.

Great question... it was not installed when I saw it. I wonder if I am being stupid and wasting all of you guys time and I was just holding it upside down. Tomorrow will tell...

ok, call me stupid...but nicely please :)

Its a CS grill, the 2 holes are on the top right for a Challenge Stradale logo, I am hoping given enough time i will learn to ignore them, if not I will find a Italian flag badge or something similar to put into them. I still would like a "Modena" script and may look into having one made.

Sorry to have wasted your time.
