I have always loved seeing the cars in the movie Rain Man. It has always been in my mind if I ever become fortunate enough to own one I think I would want it to be the same one used in the movie. Does anyone know this cars vin/location? Thanks

Funny-a friend of mine was getting close to a purchase on one of these and he used to mention the impression this shot in the movie made on him. I'll ask him if looked into the actual car from the movie. Unfortunately, these are an affordable initial purchase, especially if you don't mind non manual but this car will command a premium.......and it's probably still not a stick!

The US dollar was comparatively strong in the mid 80's and a lot of shops were set up to federalize gray market cars, such as ours, or simply to buy European classics for resale at higher prices over here.

I searched endlessly in YouTube to see if there are any other scenes where the 400i is shown, but alas, only found this link which shows the first 1.5 mins. of the movie and really features the Countachs more than the Ferrari. Maybe someone else can have better luck?

P.S. - fast forward to the 1 minute mark to avoid all the movie introductions...

This movie had an enormous impact on me as a child. It wasn't JUST the first rated 'R' movie that I ever seen.
The opening credits made me want to be a car dealer just like my father, grand father, and great grand father. The song "Scatterings of Africa" that was played as he was driving to Palm Spings made me a giant fan of Johnny Clegg who is one of my favorite artists of all time, ever.

I had forgotten early 400i scene on San Pedro/Long Beach dock. There is, however, another shot: Cruise and girlfriend are in the 400i and he remembers something left undone back at his shop, so he does a "U-ey" taking up entire road plus shoulder (turning radius for 400i is 45 feet), kicking up dust. I thought car was "Celest" color as is our 400i GT, but perhaps not. Maybe I just wanted it to be. But how does viewer know it is a 400i A ???
