I am looking at purchasing an 02' Ferrari 360 Spider F1, and would like to get some opinions on price from you folks. The car has 36K Miles, clean carfax report, convertible top does not operate (& passenger window does not fit to top correctly), F1 pump replaced, clutch, fluids and belts 'check' was completed in June 2013. Owner mentioned car has a click/grind noise when going into 6th gear. Aftermarket rims. Exhaust has been replaced in 2007 (unsure of brand)
Car has Daytona seats, challenge grill, fender shields.

What is this car really worth in today's market?

    Thanks

Look for another one. Way to many known problems with this one. Sounds like a money pit! A car fax means very little as many cars are repaired under the radar.

There's a lot of unknowns here, but the car isn't the perfect example of the 360 Spider. Can you share the color combination? Do you know the completeness of the service records?

With that many miles and those problems, I wouldn't personally pay any more than $62,500 USD, but that's just my opinion. This is principally due to the top problems and the gear change noise.

As always, if you're serious, get a good PPI!

Car is black with tan interior. I am unsure on the completeness of the service records, I will contact the owner and have him scan copies of all service history.
The gear change noise is what really concerns me, any ideas what that maybe?

I would run from the car as well. Don't let emotion cloud your judgment I did that once and it cost me about $44k on a Older F car that I ended up selling for $30k. There is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari because you end up putting the saved money and then some in non perfect cars with deferred work or unseen issues. If this car has these problems already just think what is lurking.

Note on the top it is made by Mercedes Benz and a very common issue is the piston in the rear engine compartment that is pressed into the tubing leaks out fluid over time making the top inoperable. The fix for this is to refill the fluid reservoir 2 x per year or replace the whole hydraulic line. the part is about $1100 but takes 8 to 10 hours of work to get it out to replace and bleed.

any problems are fixable but when you said roof, I switched off - you should too. Theres many better examples out there, do yourself a favour and leave this one alone.

I would like to thank everyone who responded to my thread regarding the 360 spider that I was considering to purchase. Along with making sure that the car has sound running gear and never been in a collision, with good maintenance records, one should also consider the operation of the convertible top (sounds like this could be a very expensive repair). This car also has a 6th gear shift problem ( harsh/grind into 6th). Someone mentioned that it could be a 'water pump' issue.... is the f1 pump cooled by a water system?

Given the top and 6th gear trans. problem I think it is best to take the advice of the Ferrari chat members and run from this one as fast as I can!!

This forum is a very valuable venue to help people like myself too determine if it is the right car.

    Regards,
    Ron
