About time. All the mercedes attention is making them look bad. Bmw engines + mclaren chasis have always been a good combo :)

Well, we already know Mclaren are going Honda in 2015, so that's obviously not gonna happen. Williams OTOH have generally done well with BMW power.......

    Cheers,

I'm being captain obvious here but Williams needs a boost from their current sad state. Would be cool to see them win again before ol' Frank kicks it.

Lol, BMW would never go back to Williams.

This is great news, though! The more manufacturers the better!

    Why not?

Sure, they're hurting some right now but they were once successful together. As long as they can pay I see no reason why they wouldn't get back together.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Hang on just a moment!..... Dunno if you read the whole article, but its no more than a paddock rumor as yet. Plus Bernie is stirring the pot. But it's a long way from a done deal.

I too would love to see 'em back, and apparently one of their main guys is into the idea, but the board is gonna need some serious convincing after their last debacle.

    Cheers,
    Ian

All good news then, maybe they feel Merc are grabbing the attention a bit too much, and aim for slapping them down, either way F1 comes out a winner.

This news is definitely good news, I just wish they could utilize their I4 from the glory days.

    This. It's a German thing.

Auto makers are seeing this tech as the future, the r and d of it all is a wise proposition for any company wanting to be on the sharp end of technology.

There have been BMW roadcar V6 rumours for some time, including a patent they filed. As a consumer, I like that F1 has some relevance to the world now that can transfer. Maybe BMW feels the same way about the new engine regs.

Wouldn't Sauber be the first choice given that the companies have the most recent
partnership? Albeit not the most successful one, they still had two good years with
the peak at Canada winning the Canadian GP.

I'd love BMW to re-emerge with them but maybe Sauber will stick with Ferrari.

Mercedes and BMW have always had a different approach to F1. With Merc its just badge engineering, they had the engine designed by Ilmor in the UK, which they later purchased, and later bought a team.

When BMW entered F1 they did everything in Germany with somewhat limited success. Presumably they will try the same approach again. It will be interesting to see how they get on.

*IF* (and I still think it's a pretty big if) they come back I can see 'em supplying Sauber, sure.

Historically, they tend to divvy up the teams somewhat equally between 'em. So, my guess is they'd sign 2-3 teams on their return.

Speaking of powertrain suppliers, whatever happened to our good buddies at PURE I wonder? ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

It is ok if you wear different hats simply because you love F1.

    It's down to the math.
One Ferrari outweighs two BMWs loyaltywise.

BMW and Williams never really got along. BMW frequently blamed the Williams chassis for the lack of success. Later, Williams refused to sell a majority stake in the team to BMW and that irritated them so they dumped Williams and bought into Sauber.

A partnership won't happen again. Williams is with rival MB for '14 anyway.

When was that ever a combo?

As far as I know McLarens have ran:

    -Ford
    -TAG Porsche
    -Honda
    -Peugeot
    -Mercedes

    In that order.

Unless you're referring to the F1 road car in which case, yes I agree. But as Ian already said they've already inked their long-term Honda deal.

They left f1 after getting their ass kicked pure and simple. Who will they power exactly? Williams? Sauber? Is Toyota coming back also? Silly season indeed.
