For anyone3 planning to do an oil change, I noticed the Pep Boys now sells Royal Purple. They have a $20 off $100 coupon on their web site which would bring 10 quarts down to $80+tax. Better than Amazon pricing.

vvassallo, any word on the oil filter? Should I order one?

I'm in! Please PM me address/logistics when it's all sorted. Coming down from SF and looking forward to the drive. Gonna be epic.

As for services, I'm the one who's having those legendary CEL/can't smog issues, so that's going to be my priority and area of focus. Assuming I get that handled, my other interests would be brake pad change/bleed, spark plug change, and servicing the handbrake.

    Looking forward.

Everything is coming along. For those working on your cars, start gathering your parts and fluids. Here are some recommendations:

Red Line 75/90 trans fluid - on line, I think Pelican Parts has the best price
Oil - Whatever, we use Mobil 1, Ferrari wants 10-40, but 5-30 works fine in SoCal
Brake/Clutch fluid - ATE Super Blue or Gold, on-line and Turners Motorsport usually has the best price
Filters, call Daniel at Ricambi and tell him you are doing a Stooge-fest. :) Or not. ;)
Brake pads - Ricambi used to have Porterfields as an upgrade
Anything obscure, PM Plugzit since he is a notorious, self-proclaimed, parts-whoare. :D
Coolant - BMW coolant from your local dealership (if you are a BMW club member don't forget your discount). Also, you will need 3 gallons of distilled water.

Bring enough tin foil for a hat. Or we can lend you one of ours. ;)

Ate super blue no longer legal in USA. Beware of new old stock. Consider valvoline synthetic at o'reilly. No need for fancy unless tracking cars.

How are used fluids disposed? We can't leave 100 gallons of used fluids at Vince's.

Can any one provide the quantities on the fluids?

    Oil - 10 qt
    Brake/clutch fluid - Full change - ?
    Transmission - ?
    Any other suggested fluid changes?
Tin Foil - 25 sf box?

Royal Purple oil at Pep Boys. $9.99 qt. $20 off $100 coupon on their web site. Would work for Mobil 1 as well (but cheaper at Costco).

You'll need 5 quarts for the transmission fluid (takes about 4.5 bottles)

Well once Vince and I had to dump gallons of oil at the pepboys. That was fun. It is getting harder and harder to find a place who will take large quantities. My guess is that friends should pack out what they pack in? It's not my place so not up to me but we should all be respectful of our host.

The County of Los Angeles has an oil container area on Fiji Way in Marina Del Rey. You can dispose of all the oil you want. When we change oil in our boats this is where we get rid of the old oil.

Forgot about the fluid disposal thing. I have a couple dozen 1 gallon empty containers. I do want ppl to be responsible for carrying out their used crap and dropping it off. I think that PeP Boys in Harbor City is still pretty easy to work with. I will start collecting boxes to put the milk jugs in.

348's take 10 liters and 355's 9.5 liters. We usually dump in less then take a measurement.
Brakes only take about 1.5 liters, so bring 2.
    348 tran's take 4 liters. I don't know about the 355's.

Anyone really see a difference is using 10w-40 vs the prescribed 5w-40 oil? I can get 10w-40 Royal Purple locally but have to order 5w-40 online. I can't imaging in So. California there is going to be a big difference in performance but I'm no Ferrari expert. Dave Helms had mentioned something earlier about noticing a pressure difference between different weights.
