The movie by Ron Howard on the Nicki Lauda-Jame shunt rivalry which comes out in a couple weeks. I don't think the casting was right cosmetically--the actor who plays Hunt doesn't look that much like Hunt did , they did better with the Lauda character. In the LA times lauda says he liks the movie. I am hoping for good action scenes & mucho ambiance. I hope this movie is THE racing movie of the decade as it's been a helluva long time since Frankenheimer's Grand Prix....

I think RH is in a dilemma. Racing movies don't do well. Historical drama's don't do well.

Yes, there are hardcore gear heads (like myself) who will like to see this movie just to see a re-creation 312T being filmed beautifully and emotionally, but that's not going to pay the bills. I can watch Top Gear for that sort of stuff.

He's going to have to reach out to a larger audience. They're just aren't enough guys who will be able to drag their GF's and spouses to see a movie about a playboy and a guy almost burnt to death in a car crash (no spoilers here-- it's in their trailers) without something else to make them want to go.

So the dilemma is, if he does that and appeals to a larger audience, does he risk turning off the core auto enthusiasts who already know the story?

If anyone can do it, RH can. Or, this may end up the flop of the year.

Early reviews have been very positive.

I'm excited to see the movie. I for one think it was very well cast.

I recommend the last issue of MotorSport magazine with Hunt & Lauda on the cover, They have an interesting interview both with Niki Lauda and with Hunt's family, which gives good context. Bth approved of the movie. Lauda says since he can't remember the accident anymore, he felt things watching that movie he didn't even feel back then.

The trailer looked a bit too cinematic and cgi heavy for me. Honestly I think LeMans is one of the best racing movies ever made. This I don't see being a big hit with the mainstream crowd, and it isn't catered enough to the car guys to gain a loyal following.

Could be if it works in the U.S., that'll be no small part of it? Wouldn't be surprised if it surprises in a positive way internationally.

Anyone know anything about this movie?

Reviews look good, maybe the next "Gran Prix" classic?

Idk what the OP is talking about but because Chris Hemsworth and Olivia wylde are in it, it will sell just fine and be super successful. Most people who will see it probably couldn't care less about ferrari.

Just saw it last night. It seems to focus more on the story than the actual racing. I found at times I wanted to be involved in the racing experience more than just scripted drama. Overall, it's really well done. Beautifully shot and loud. It was very interesting to see the way the portrayed Enzo to be. There might as much boob shots as racing. Though, that's never bad. I don't want to give too much away. It's definitely worth seeing.

I saw the movie a few days ago and was blown away. It was fantastic, and that's me with my best "I won't let my love of F1 influence my opinion" filter on. It's not a racing movie like Grand Prix, and it doesn't try to be a documentary like Senna. It's a sports movie that I think has a lot of mainstream appeal. I think a lot of non-F1 fans will like it.

In fact, F1 fans might even be a little disappointed that there's not enough racing or car porn in it. I was, but there was enough of it there to satisfy me. Especially since the movie itself was so compelling.

If you've seen it, there were a few things I was wondering about that maybe someone here knows the answer to....

When Marlene and Niki left the party, what kind of car were they in (the one that broke down)? I thought I saw a Ferrari emblem on it, but I didn't recognize the model.

The Ferrari guy who told Lauda "You can't criticize the car, it's a Ferrari!" Was that Luca di Montezemolo?

Having seen it with my wife last week at a pre-screening I too had the same concerns. But she loved it for all the same reasons I did. I hate to spoil anything so I won't mention like/dislikes until it's been in the theaters for at least a week. IMO Ron Howard did exactly what he set out to do. I'd be interested in other opinions once others have seen it.

    Definitely not a documentary though.

USA Today did their review this morning, and their long-time reviewer, Claudia Puig loved it. She gave it four stars, her highest rating. The NY Times was a little lower at 3 1/2 stars, but both felt it would be a hit.

Ron Howard's 'Rush' crosses finish line a winner

I think Marlene and Lauda's car was a Peugeot.

    Hilarious scene, that one.

Im not a racing fan at all and I want to see it. That tells me Howard did his job in translating this for a wider appeal.
