Tell that to Edgar. That makes no sense. Pettis was scheduled to fight Aldo at 145 until he got injured. BJ had two belts in two different weight classes. So did couture. Until silva lost, there was a lot of chatter about gsp vs silva or silva vs jones. A 10 lb difference between 145 and 155 is nothing. These fighters routinely walk around 20 lbs or more than their weigh in. Just look at Maynard.

Bottom line Aldo cleaned out his division. Pettis was set to fight him at 145 once before and called him out again on Saturday. Any fight fan not intrigued by that matchup and preferring to see Money get decimated by Aldo again is beyond me.

Yea, I agree that this is the match to make. I'm worried that Pettis will be another Silva / GSP / Aldo / Bones and make a long run at 155 - not something I want to see.

You don't like pettis? I'm a huge bendo fan but I admire how pettis, like Aldo, goes for the ko, tko, submission. Bendo will get his rematch with pettis. He beat everyone else in LW. May be awhile however tough to demand a trilogy when you lost the first two. Not sure how TJ stacks up with either of them. Melendez is lurking in the wings his loss to bendo was razor thin. Edgar still had some gas in the tank. LW is the deepest class, if pettis has a long run it will be remarkable to watch. Lets see how quickly he recovers from his knee injury. Aldo beat the Zombie on one leg after all.

yea, but when an upper weight guy calls out a lower weight guy, that's weak. I never heard A. Silva call out GSP. or Jones call out A. Silva or Cain call out Jones. it's usually the other way around. Dude he just won the 155lb belt and he's calling out the lighter weight champ. Chicken!!!!!
...and until you've wrestled or did MMA, don't say 10lbs is nothing. IT's HUGE!!!!!!!!! (at that weight)

WTF dude you know they were scheduled to fight each other at UFC 163. I didn't hear you *****ing then. Chicken my ass it wasnt chicken when edgar dropped down to fight aldo. It's the match everyone wants to see. I box and the mma fighters at my dojo move weight classes all the time in the lighter weight classes. Maybe if you trained you would know this to be the case too.

So guida was a chicken dropping down to fight money? A lot of good that drop did for him lmao. Clueless.

Rdefabri and kizdan know the story. When Dana first matched Pettis with Aldo, Aldo refused to fight Pettis deeming him not worthy. This was a hard dis to Pettis. Only when Dana promised Aldo an immediate shot at the LW title if he emerged victorious did Aldo agree to the fight. Even a casual UFC fan knows this contentious history between the two. This was the impetus for Pettis calling out Aldo. He wasn't being chicken, he proved by beating Bendo that he was worthy enough to fight Aldo.

For all we know Aldo will move up to 155 as he was game to take on the LW champion. Assuming Pettis drops to 145 is premature.

I don't think he is saying he doesn't like Pettis - I believe he just doesn't want to see a long-running, dominant Champ, which can become boring. Pettis is certainly capable of doing just that.

Exactly. Long term champs moght work in boxing, because the fighters don't fight as frequently as they do in MMA.

I love Pettis, I just don't want to see someone dominate for an extended period because it starts to diminish the excitement for me. You almost expect the challenger to lose - seriously, if Condit couldn't beat GSP, yet beats everyone else, then who can challenge GSP?

I'd rather see Pettis take on Aldo, and whomever loses is still in great position. That would be a GREAT fight. I think Aldo is a big 145, could move up to 155 no problem and I'd bet no impact to his game.

If Aldo does end up fighting Pettis, I don't think it can or will be for a belt, simply because a Champ having to defend 2 belts from different weight classes can only defend the individual belts half the amount of times that he should be able to. This would really bog down title fights being fought in those weight classes. Then, what if said Champ gets injured for any amount of time? You'd have 2 weight classes waiting on said Champ to return. I would be very surprised if the UFC allowed this to occur.

I believe I have already heard Dana say that if a fighter goes to another weight class to challenge for a belt, and wins, he must stay in that weight class to defend it a certain amount of times............

Definitely agree with you there. I grew to despise Silva and Jones and am growing to dislike GSP, simply because I want some new blood. Especially the hubris of Silva and Jones, their antics start to rub me the wrong way. GSP is still a humble good guy but I really was rooting for NBK and will be pulling hard for Hendricks.

Could not agree with you more about Aldo-Pettis. Glad to see other fight fans share my passion for this mega fight. I think Aldo moves up to protect his belt at 145 lb like BJ against GSP.

OTOH I'm annoyed that vitor won't fight middleweight to protect his chances at title. Dude is so roided out its scary he looked like a freak against rockhold.

Im picking Teixeria and Okami today. After the previous two fights, this card is somewhat anticlimactic but Bader and Souza could prove game.

Although I know it would never happen - I'd love to see the weigh-in take place right before the fight, just to ensure that both fighters are actually fighting at equal weights.

Pissing contest with the wrong person. CALM down. Everyone has there own opinion. It's like a college student going back to a high school party! At the time it would have been a great fight, but now there are bigger fish to fry! and again, 10lbs is HUGE. HUGE!!!!!!!
And the chicken comment wasn't that anyone was a chicken to fight eachother, it was that he was calling out a lighter weight.
Edgar was the SMALLEST 155 around. He did get defeated and then stepped down. He Didn't win the championship and then called out a 145 champ. Pettis should have called out GSP!!!
Hey, What type of training have you really had. Go piss, here is your chance...
Pettis Aldo would be a GREAT fight. It's just that you don't call out a lower weight!!! That was my whole beef!

Decent card last night. I realized when it was too late that I did not set my DVR to record the preliminaries. No biggie, since I don't think I knew of any of the fighters on the undercard.

Texeira looked good against Bader, although I never fully bought into the Bader hype when it was strong. Interesting how disappointed Texeira was after the fight after he got backed up by Bader. I guess he has a point, because if it was Jones in that position, it would have been over for Texeira. It will be interesting to see who Texeira gets next.

Benavidez looked dominant. That guy's a beast!

Jacare demolished Okami - very impressive.

    What were your impressions?

Agree with all of your points. I think Bader is overrated, but he can punch. Texeira has a good chin, but Jones would have punished him in that instance.

Benavides - wow. Was impressed by Jacare - still hard to believe Rockhold beat him.

I enjoyed most all the fights! Jacare is AWESOME. As good as his ground game is, his stand up is getting better and better. I really DON'T want him to fight Belfort. Texeira didn't look too good in my eyes, I think he needs another fight before a title shot. I guess he had weight troubles...
    Fun card all together!
