The paint on my 2003 360 down shift paddle has started to wear down to visible metal in a few areas. The car only has 13k miles on it so I am pretty sure it is not from overuse as the up shift is in mint shape like the rest of the car.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is it much of a job to repair?

    Install a new one?

    Cost?

    Repaint ?

    Thanks for looking and helping

I have the same MY with 11K spider.
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/416611-my-newly-acquired-03-360-spider-2.html

    Yes.
No. Turn the steering wheel to 10 and 2 o'clock position to expose the four screws
I replaced it with an aftermarket carbon fiber long paddle design.

Cost me $600. See here: Ferrari 360 Carbon Fiber GT Paddle Shifter Set New | eBay

You can, just spray over with high quality enamel paint, but you'll lose the UP and DOWN text unless you mask it out or rub in need text after the painting.

Might consider bringing them to a powder coater. Should be reasonable and will hold up well.

got the CF at Pebble in 2004. IIRC $500. Easy to install.

very nice feel and of course the car was faster cuz of the weight reduction. :D

I used the same can of paint I used for the trim on my A pillars (which had faded in the Florida sun). A little sanding and a couple of days drying time and they're better than new. I did not, however, repaint the up and down in white. Still it cost me time only. That was 3 or 4 years ago and they're holding up great.

David- The 360 and F430 paddles are not interchangeable unless you have done something different. 360 and 575M paddles are identical and interchangeable, but not F430 paddles.

Don't go for cheap ones if you go CF, some of the ebay-type offerings are very cheap but i've fitted a few sets supplied by customers and they are terrible, some of them bend so much during use they strike the back of the steering wheel!

Eddie- I can vouch for that. I bought a cheap set and sold them without ever fitting them. I now have Carbonio paddles and am very happy with them. The long paddles are a very big driveability improvement.

I really love your dash -- that red stitching really sets it off.

Alan- Thanks, that is a Superamerica instrument panel and charcoal leather with red stitching. Those long paddles really do make driving easier. You can use the turn signal switch and the downshift paddle nearly simultaneously.

The mount spacing for the shifter plate are the same 360 vs F430. The arch of the arm between the plate and the paddle is slightly different. The F430 has more of an arch so F430 Paddles will not work on a 360 as they will hit the wheel just prior to the shift point. Our GT extended paddles are designed to compensate for the interference of the larger arch of the arm so they can be used on either car.

What is the actual colour of the 360 paddles ?

Did the colour vary slightly between the early models and MY02 onwards to a slightly darker colour ?

MY 03 is matte black or semi-gloss. Definitely not glossy.

No#1 Phillips to remove the small screws, turning wheel to gain access.
Don't drop/loose the tiny spring washers for the screws.....

Place paddles in shallow tray and fill just enough to cover with pure vinegar.
2 days should do it. All the paint should come right off, use very light sand
paper on stubborn areas, like 1000 or 800 grit.

Wash paddles in Dawn dish liquid, and do a final clean with rubbing alcohol
to prep for paint. You can prime if you want, a matte or flat white, I did
not prime and came out fine.

Locate a silver matte or low gloss paint that matches the interior pieces,
paint away, admire your new paddles, install and enjoy.

My up/down show fine after 3 light coats, key is very light coats.

I removed the paint off paddles with paint stripper. Then lightly sanded with wet and
dry sand paper. I then polished them with metal polish and WOW. polished aluminium paddles which i always wanted but could not find. At the time if i could find them in polish aluminium i would have paid $500. best thing ive ever done.
