What choice does he have. LdM is said to be the final vote for a Kimi arrival. That being said, I said last year I give FA 2 more years(including next year with the new car) to get a title. If he doesnt then he leaves. This is the beginning of his exit assuming next year he doesnt win. He has lost patience and losing Massa then facing possibly Kimi will not sit well with him and how he likes to operate.

Read DC's latest column on the BBC about his mood this year vs last. With a possible Kimi arrival he puts on a brave face and starts looking around unless he wins. Frankly I think he already was with Red Bull.

I think throwing that hissy fit at Hungary didn't impress LdM at all and this is basically him telling Alonso ''we have options...''.

He has no other choice, he can stay and see what he and Kimi can do or leave to Lotus, but he won't have a real chance at another WDC there. He tried with Red Bull but was shot down pretty quick there...RB knows what'll happen with Vettel and Alonso there. Full scale war.

I think you read alonso and kimi short. I think kimi would be great as a almost number one, slightly less than equal to alonso. He will do his job, try his best to be the winning driver, but happy to drive round for points collecting a few million as backup to alonso too. Alonso will have a less compliant teammate, yes, but his self belief will be so high and the team won't forget that alonso made successive rubbish cars worth racing with. At least kimi has been there, done it, nico hulk or anyone else will have a point to prove and no experience to limit the damage if it goes wrong, not helpful to alonso

Kimi is clearly not happy to be second. Hanging our for a paycheck at Ferrari and not getting a title will not last. He is a short term solution. His days are numbered and so are FA's.

LdM is probably 'over' the love affair with FA. The damage is done. Either that or Ferrari are actually dropping the #1 only status etc? Speculation on my part but this should be interesting. Still the question is who takes FA's place sooner than later I think.

Maybe Fernando will swap with vettel! Hope not, but you never know. Alonso won't mind kimi there, and kimi doesn't give a cr** who he races. However, if alonso is faster, kimi will just get on with it, just be better backup than felipe shows now. I would rather have bianchi anyhow, but I can't see he's ready

Doesn't taking back Kimi after giving him the bum's rush show that LDM puts wining above all else?
FA may be a Prima Donna but he's no fool. I think that he'll have a few advantages over Kimi at the start of next season. He'll put them to good use.
The #1 spot will be earned with results.

I don't quite get where this "#1 status" story grew from. Both Phil & Rubens before him were adamant that they *never* had such clauses in the contracts - They could be lying I guess, but I don't think so.

Sure, a #1 emerges over the course of the season and eventually the de-facto guy gets the support of his 'mate, but it's not a contractual issue IMO.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Who cares if he does?..Hope he doesn´t and leave, that would really be a happy day!!!
On the other hand, i wouldn´t want to miss the chance of watching Kimi beat the crap out of that cheating snake

    Lol, you really hate Alonso.

I really hope the dreamteam comes to fruition. Any bets on who would come out ahead?

Once it's confirmed - and I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet as tomorrow (Weds) is a bad date for such releases here - I think a poll is in order......

I really hope it happens, although I'm not sure which way I'd vote right now! - I still think Kimi is *super* quick when he's happy and may give Fred a little more than he's expecting.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Benson from the BBC has a small analysis of this pairing:

    Andrew Benson Chief F1 writer

Fernando Alonso is said not to be keen on Kimi Raikkonen joining Ferrari, but the question is whether that is because he fears him on the track or because it will inevitably take some of the focus of his team away from him.

Alonso has dominated Ferrari since he joined in 2010 and all the team's efforts are directed at him.

That would no longer be the case were Raikkonen to join. In addition, signing Raikkonen would say to the world that Ferrari are perhaps not quite as committed to Alonso as they had previously been.

Seeing Alonso and Raikkonen battle it out in equal machinery would be a prospect many would savour - it would be fascinating to find out who would come out on top.

That will be debated endlessly - as comparisons between all the top F1 drivers always are. But one engineer who has worked closely with both is in doubt.

"I think Alonso, pretty convincingly," he said. "Everywhere - especially qualifying and the first laps of the race."

BBC Sport - Kimi Raikkonen would 'destabilise' Fernando Alonso at Ferrari

    Let me think here...

    1. Rory Byrne
    2. James Allison
    3. Pat Fry
    4. Kimi Raikkonnen
    5. Fernando Alonso

Yes, I'd say LdM is deadly serious about wining.

Death to the cans I say.

I think Kimi coming on board might motivate Alonso. I honestly think he'd beat Kimi. If Ferrari is going to contend for the WCC they need both cars in the points consistently. Massa isnt consistent enough.

All animals are equal. Some animals are more equal than others.

I'd put in quotes but Aircon seems to hate it when I do,

Of course Alonso doesn't really have a choice so the real question is, when Kimi starts challenging Alonso, how will Alonso respond? The only thing we have as reference was when Alonso was teamed up with Hamilton and we know how that ended, not pretty.

    Maybe he's matured since then.

On the plus side, we can assume that Kimi won't be bad mouthing Alonso in the press.

Mumbling in his beer maybe. Mouthing off notsomuch.

I think the difference here is that everyone including Ferrari knew how that went down, so either Kimi is happy to get some guaranteed cash, and he is not to bothered by being Freds wingman, or...

Kimi is out for himself and he will just go and give Fred a run for his money, the problems could start if he starts beating Fred, then Fred could start spitting his dummy out.

Essentially Fred has had it his own way up to now, whether behind closed F doors there is mind games going on, I don't know.

    When & if Vettle leaves for Ferrari (hope not) it'll be because;
    a) the car is no longer performing
    b) Newey is leaving for either retirement or Ferrari.
I can't see Seb leaving for Ferrari unless they're on thier way up. Schumacher did it the hard way. Went to Ferrari when they were doing badly to build them up with his people.
