I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. You mean if Ferrari wanted to they could build a faster 2013 F1 car but they built a slower one so Red Bull could beat them again?
If Petrol energy/engine is used to recharge the boost less Petrol HP is available to power the car. We were 15 seconds a lap YOY with 50 seconds of KERS but our KERS was generated solely by recapturing otherwise lost brake energy. What you're missing Mark is that P1 needs boost not just for the time it takes the petrol engine to reach torque but to make torque until P1's Turbo engine makes torque which is a longer time. P1 needs more boost than La Ferrari to achieve the same results and AFAIK La Ferrari and 918 also recapture lost braking energy which P1 doesn't.
Most likely the standard 918 seats are not HANS compatible...but GOD that was a fast lap in a street car!!!! I wish my Carrera GT had that steering wheel
You need at LEAST a four point harness for a HANS device but the seatback in the head and shoulder area must have accommodating space for the unit. Standard seats would push your head forward making driving difficult
Soooooo there we have it. Good luck trying to beat this time. Once these other manufacturers figured out that they can only get their top HP figures to last only so long compared to the 918 they must have panicked. Porsche well done, you've done it again and created a tour de force of engineering. In my eyes, you are the Apple with steve jobs at the helm of the auto world. Always a fantastic set of events leading up to the unveiling of a perfectly understated product that just outperforms.
I think that lap was highly impressive. And the car looks absolutely beautiful, and sounds amazing. Everything about it is top notch. If I didn't have such a soft sport for Ferrari I would say the 918 is my favorite of the 3 new supercars. And perhaps it's where the money is best spent. But since I don't have enough to spend, for now I still prefer the LaFerrari.
"The Carrera GT was a car for men, not for boys....this car [the 918], anyone can drive" --Walter Rohrl
Heck of a run for the Porsche. I imagine you and your team -- while happy for Porsche -- were also reminded of the accomplishment you achieved. At 125 miles an hour, a difference of 6 seconds translates to over 1/5th of a mile.
I remember in development of the CGT, there was a totally different suspension and tire combo that was well over 10s faster at NS. The good 'ol days. Even manlier to drive though. Jalop is reporting this 918 is a Weissach edition, meaning less battery weight. Is this true? Porsche know the Ring better than any other MFR. This by itself is a massive advantage. On a F1 track, I wouldn't be surprised if both the P1 and LF were devistatingly faster.
This deduction is totally wrong. You cannot compare between different tracks like that as the specific characteristics of each track make a big difference. For example, the Fiorano is very tight and sticky slick tyres make a great difference, but the huge power advantage of the LaFerrari cannot be properly exploited. Also, regarding what Psk said earlier, Formula 1 might be very restrictive nowadays, but it is still the greatest challenge and F1 cars are the most advance racers in the world. That Porsche time is very impressive indeed.
My point was if Ferrari wanted to build a car solely for a fast Ring time they would. But that was never their goal so the LF ring time is irrelevant to me. The car will be plenty fast for the road which is what the car was designed for.
