Top speed is determine by peak hp and aerodynamic drag. The aero of those 3 cars are pretty much the same, so peak hp is the sole factor.

    570 hp 202 mph
    670 hp 208 mph
    740 hp 211 mph

So the 608 hp Speciale probably have a top speed of 203.5 mph.

Top speed don't mean much in real life.

Good question on what is the top speed of the 458S, not that it matters for any practical purpose. All other things being equal, the horsepower increase should be good for a top of 206 mph. But things are not equal. Ferrari seems to claim that the coefficient of drag is the same as the 458. OK, but those aero devices that generate more downforce will reduce top end even if some of them retract for straight line runs. In any event it won't be much different than the 458.

You cannot judge the actual sound from these videos.

In one of the videos they state the top speed at 325 km/h. That is 203+ mph in old money. Not that it matters; anything above 180 is diabolical anyway.

I agree that Top Speed is not an issue in day to day driving. will be interesting to see how the aero effects offset/enhance the hp increase.

will be interesting to see how they price the 458S relative to the F12.

judging from most comments here the F12 looks better and has more creature comforts.
the 458S will probably handle better.

True, but you can definitely judge that stupid crossbeam pipe that connects the two exhaust outlets...should've just straight-piped the bloody thing imho.

Impressive stats for sure, but good lord it's not very pretty. I'd be interested to know more about their "weight saving piston material." 14:1 compression is also very impressive on pump gas.

I'm really looking forward to the 458S being in the hands of some proper auto journo's a la Steve Sutcliffe/Jethro B/EVO team or even Chris Harris if they let him! Be great to see real world comparisons with even F12 comparison even if they are totally different cars.

I think one really special element of the 458S that we might be overlooking is the fact it is probably the last naturally aspirated Ferrari V8 - and therefore the final curtain call of a fantastic generation!? Could that make the 458S quite special in years to come?

Looks like they added a sound pipe connecting the engine intake pipe to inside the cabin, I don't recall the regular 458 have that. Can anyone confirm that?

This would make a dramatic difference in sounds inside the cabin. This is one reason why the LFA sounds so fantastic inside the cabin. Mclaren added that pipe to the 12C after complain of dull sounds also.

I wouldn't bet on the last hurrah for the NA V-8. Try 4.8L same way and you bump the hp a little.

That is a possibility, since the California is going turbo on the next generation, if the 458 replacement have turbo, the 458 and 458S will definitely be the last great sounding V8 model.

My guess is the 458 replacement will still be naturally aspirated V8, they can add power and efficiency with KERS, Ferrari will try to keep it naturally aspirated for as long as they can. They won't add turbo until they have to a few generations down the road.

Official Ferrari claim of the coefficient of drag:

    Italia: 0.33
    Spider (top up): 0.335
    Speciale: 0.35

Top speed of the Speciale won't be much different, +1 mph at best.

With these coefficient of drag figures, it is certain that the 458S will not have a higher top end and could even be lower due to downforce.

Nice pic of the engine coming by a German Magazine. They speak about a price of 240.000 euro (+-). I heard in Maranello 237.000 euro. This price is inclusive of Italian VAT (21%).
