According to Maranello. Any other reason that the F12 does not use the 4RM? It shares its platform with the FF after all and it would be really easy to have it.

They also tried 4WD in F1 and it proved a lot slower than RWD. It was not banned there, it was abandoned. ;) It was much faster at wet races though.

Don't challenge the claims that REALZEUS makes with actual facts. It messes with his equilibrium and stuff. ;)

No, he's sort of right, back in the 60 and 70 awd didn't work and was not banned but abandoned in various types of motor racing. Even today is debateable if its faster under all conditions.

Both Audi and Toyota would argue that it AWD IS faster....check out their LMP1 cars

yup. that it was 'shown' to be slower in F1...good grief, that was an eternity ago. my goodness, I shudder to think how much faster a cutting edge F1 could be with AWD Active steering, torque vectoring, active aero...etc.

per the 918. Sensational. incredible piece of kit. just had a feeling Porsche had more to give than previously believed. it is beautiful in the liquid silver and magnesium BBS wheels (weissach option). an outright bargain in elite company, and Porsche will continue to support the product with future updates, with possibility for lighter packs as tech moves on? win win. bravo.

    The Toyota is RWD, IIRC.

IIRC Audi is not allowed to drive the front wheels below 120 km/h because otherwise it would have too big an advantage.

In F1 Mosley proposed to introduce awd for teams spending under a certain budget as a way of giving them an edge.

Aws was tried in F1 by Schumacher on the Benetton but didn't give too much of an advantage other than feeling slightly unnatural and was so shelved. Certain types of modern rear suspensions, though, behave as passive steering allowing a certain degree of horizontal movement.

Is it possible that after LF and P1 reveal their lap times(if they do), Porsche announces this tire as an optional tire for Weissach Package and then declare the 6:48 lap time?...

    Just a thought..

I believe they'd originally designed for AWD but the regulations change restricting low-speed use changed their minds (it would seem incorrectly based on results). Not sure why it's at all debatable that 4 driven wheels are better than 2 driven wheels for top performance - if you've a lightweight high quality system. The trick is engineering said system. Much the same for 4ws, traction control, etc. etc. - they are all superior for performance, the trick is engineering a good system; particularly difficult with a very short development cycle like in F1.

Whether the end result is emotional is a fair question, but divorced from ultimate performance. That paradigm shift has yet to takehold in some quarters apparently.

As soon as batteries will become lighter the new benchmark awd system will be the system used in the sls electric drive where one electric engine per wheel gives each of them exactly the torque they need, instantly, positive or negative, actually pushing some of them to spin backwards rather than just braking them.
