Hi all, I am trying to transfer music from my i phone 5 to the HDD. I have connected the i phone to the USB port and to the port in the glove box as well. The unit does not appear to recognize the i phone as a USB device. It plays songs on the i phone just fine. Has anyone had success doing this?
I think the only way to do it is to plug the iPhone into a laptop, move the music and then to a USB flash drive. Pretty sure that connector in the Ferrari only recognizes a USB HD drive, well almost certain. And the only thing that has worked for me is music in mp3 format so you will have to convert from ALAC to mp3.
I tranferred some songs on a USB stick and then to the HDD. No sound when playing back. I guess it does not work with MP4 files. I guess i will just have to play music from my i phone connected to the usb port
I ran across the same problem. FoO confirmed the HDD cannot correctly play the lossless music that are stored in MPEG-4 files which are native to iTunes and only supports the older lossy MP3 format. ALAC is actually the audio codec Apple uses to extract the lossless music from the MPEG-4 envelope. You can run iTunes on your computer and instruct it to make MP3 copies of music in your iTunes library and then transfer the MP3 files to the HDD using a USB flash drive as Martin suggested. MPEG-4 is a more advanced storage format that can contain lossless audio, photos and as well as video. MP3 is only lossy compressed audio. You may also come across the lossless AIFF format - the HDD will also appear to play AIFF but it actually skips quite often. So stick with MP3 only!
Well no, but I won't get into a audiophile discussion here Just tried and definitely the only files with the extension of .mp3 will be loaded to the HDD.
Do what I do- keep a iPod loaded with all your music permanently plugged in inside the glovebox. Problem solved.
Yeah, that will work but Ferrari stopped offering the glovebox connection option some time ago so many cars only have the USB port on the face of the infotainment unit. I think this started with the Cali 30 but I may be wrong.
It was $975 on my 14 Spider and I ordered it I have a ton of music loaded on my iphone including 1 hour trance podcasts and I alternate between 2 cars, thus having the iPod connector is a must. I'm constantly downloading new podcasts and tracks to my iphone so keeping a dedicated ipod in each car (2) and having to update each one weekly is a bit of a pain. The F-car exhaust is wonderful but sometimes I like to listen to some EDM too. The ipod connector works pretty good on my F10 BMW via iDrive and was like $500 but IMHO used each time I drive BMW is well worth it. Satellite radio doesn't work out here and having to use a USB jump drive to upload music weekly is a bit of a pain too.
Well, that's interesting; the iPod glovebox connection is apparently not offered by FoO - not on their Cali 30 options list. I specifically asked to pay to have one installed while configuring my Cali 30 last year. After several inquiries I was informed I can only use the Bluetooth connection for an iPod/iPhone as the iPod connection was no longer offered. I wonder if this is a Canadian thing or if FoO is the exception. At any rate, it's not an important issue for me since I do not have a big demand on iPod multimedia. I am able to copy all the iTunes music I want to the HDD and that's good enough for me. Haven't tried the Bluetooth connection method yet. Anyone care to comment on the Bluetooth connection?
That is interesting. Not sure about Bluetooth in my 911 I had the adaptor that works through fm radio and it was marginal. I guess the iPod connector may help a little at resale seems like there is a demand for this type of functionality from some owners.
Ordered the iPod connector back in 2012 but when car arrived it was an early 2013 and the music from iPhone streams via Bluetooth and therefore the iPod connector ordered was deleted. Streaming music works well....
Just connect your IPhone via Bluetooth and you can stream it. Switch music to other audio connectivity. I have not the IPod connection in the glovebox as well. As not an option at my Cali30 in CY12 (ordered in April 2012).
Cmazza, sorry for delay.....what I do is push media button above radio volume knob and that triggers a display on media screen that asks for devices, when I press that my iPhone is displayed, I press that and music streams. Hope this helps.....
Thanks all for the help. I tried using an i pod nano 7 th generation and it is not compatible with the Ferrari unit (works fine on my DB9). I can now stream the music with m i phone.
Nothing like that on my Cali. iPhone shows "connected" to Ferrari but no prompt for devices when media button is pushed. The only way the iPhone button will be active is when it is plugged into the glove box connector. Mine is a 2012 so I assume bluetooth was updated for 2013 to allow for streaming
I tested Bluetooth streaming in my Cali30 and it works fine; also connects to other non-Apple Bluetooth MP3 players but not to my iPad Mini. Sound quality's OK but I imagine it's better with a cable. There is also one other drawback - your phone/MP3 player's battery will drain a lot faster streaming Bluetooth and it's also not charging while it's doing that, unlike when it's tethered to car so I think the iPod connector is better. Anyway, I just copy my music to the HDD. What can I say, it's an Italian car!
Absolutely correct. When my iphone battery is running low, I look forward to plugging it into the adaptor so I can listen to podcasts, CME, or playlists while it is charging. I don't charge my phone overnight as it charges in the morning on the way to work.
Another option would be plug in charger using lighter outlet but I've yet to find a Bluetooth solution that sounds as good as plug and play.
