    Idle hands do the devil's work, so I was playing around with what the car would look like with glassed over headlights. IF YOU'RE A PURIST, AVERT YOUR EYES.
    Anyway, it's a steel bucket painted rattle- can red with cheapo lights and a Lexan lid. I only did one just to see what it would look like. Gotta say doesn't blow me away. I think I'll stick to the pop-ups. Just thought I'd share if other's were curious, so nobody get their knickers in a knot. No gold or tin were used in the making of this item

    It looks like it's sleeping with one eye open, wondering what you're going to do to it next. :eek:

    I'd stick with the pop-ups, they're an integral part of the charm of the 348 design. :)

    The problem is that the 348 design uses alot of angles. So the round lights look out of place. If someone made rectangular HID projectors and if they would fit, then it would be bad to bone! Or round projectors with some type of rectangular shroud. Don't give up the good fight.

    yes, think F40 or 512m. I think the lights themselves are what don't look right, not necessarily the covered lights. Has anyone measured 300zx lights (ala lambo diablo sv's) to see if they'd be close?

    I don't think it looks right. Its' housing, not lights or the idea. Look at a modern car like a Porsche. The entire light housing is molded into a reflector and is part of the assembly. What is needed is some type of reflector or lens surrounding the lights and filling the open space.

    Thanks for the suggestions. All valid points. I also thought the fact that that area is so damn flat there isn't a lot of visual interest. A little more curvature would maybe help. I'll ponder some. Plus there's the fact that actual lighting would be pretty crappy from back in that hole.
    One lesson learned is that if you're comfortable removing your front trunk liner, I'm thinking for any work on the real lights, bulbs, etc. it might be easier to remove the whole unit (if you've never tried to work on the lights on those cars, it's a bugger with very tight tolerences) Once you move the washer fluid tank, it's just 4 bolts and a few electrical plugs and the whole thing pops out easy. Easy to work on then without fears of paint scratches on the hood and nose.

    I think you basically did a good job at it. But I also think that the edge near the 90 degree bend at the bonnet should be curved just a bit and it would look significantly beter.

    I'm away from home for a few days so I can't give you an accurate weight. The headlight unit wasn't super heavy... maybe 10 lbs or so? With all that engine in the back, I'm not sure you want to be removing weight in the front? Seems to me one of the heaviest items are the seats, but I find them very comfortable, so they're stayin' in.
