Ive been watching youtube videos to see if I could find a video of the 458 vs the scud. After watching a few I was shocked to see that in all of the races online the two cars have nearly identical acceleration up until very high speeds when the scud shifts into 6th. It seems that because of the extra gear in the italia that top end acceleration is better in the 458. Its pretty amazing considering that the 458 vs 430 video that top gear UK did showed the 430 getting destroyed by the 458. Its amazing that the scud is so much faster, the 430 is amazing in its own right, not bashing them in anyway. Im guessing that the scud must be making way more power than claimed. Does anyone have stock dyno numbers of there 430 or the scud to compare?

Ive seen a few vids on youtube and most of them look how you explain, through the corners and twisty parts the scud keeps up with the 458 with ease and on the long straights the 458 pulls away pretty fast.

Im biased, I have a scud, but I think a little fact is, scud drivers on these track videos have owned their cars much longer then the 458 owners and are just better drivers.

But on paper, the scud should be able to brake later and corner better due to the extra weight loss.

I'd assume that the faster shifts on the 458 will give an edge as well. It's minute but every little bit adds up.

Here are dyno graphs for both and F430 and an F430 Scuderia with the Fabsped Performance package. The dynos were both done on the same dyno and under similar conditions. You can see that with a couple of upgrades the Scud was up to 472 hp at the rear wheels, which is quite a number! Sorry they are so small, the forum wont let me put any larger ones on. Here are the links just in case

No Problem! And for reference here is a 458 with our package. You can see that a stock 458 is putting out about 25hp and 20ft.lbs less that the 430 Scud with the Fabspeed package. The reduced weight and added performance of a Scud with some minor bolt ons should pull slightly from a 458. Stock for stock the advantage would obviously go to the 458 though :)

But the 458 shifts much faster, so although it may put out less HP it may still come out first due to the many other factors involved like transmission and technology.

Any ideas on how many ponies would be added to the Scud with sport cats and tune? I'm worry about drone inside the cabin (as well as noise) so trying to avoid the headers back system.

Yes it sure does shift VERY fast, however the Scud isn't exactly a slouch in the shifting department either. It would be interesting to see which transmission actually operates more efficiently and loses the least amount of power. There are several factors at play here. Air strip event anyone??

Ken T - just had complete performance package put on by Fabspeed, and to be honest, world of a difference. The sound is sickening and addicting. Best money I've spent on the car, and contrary to other posts, my mechanic had no issue whatsoever installing and no alignment or fitment issues. Everything has been great thus far, and Evan has been a pleasure to work with. Have my first track event in two weeks, so I'll keep you posted on how that goes.
On a side note, I did the package upgrade because a 458 pulled on me at about 160, so I wanted more power and torque. Just biting on my chops to find him again, and give it another run. :))

Did you keep up with the 458 up to 160?

    Edward,
I did keep up till then. Keep in mind after 160 I didn't have a ton of more road to go, so he pulled away till about 173 and then started to hit those breaks. On a side note, make sure than the CCB's are nicely warmed up prior to hitting those speeds, because mine weren't that warm and took some time to stop.

I have a F430 with Fabspeed headers and all I can say is that it is a world of difference in sound and I felt a lot of power too. definitely worth it.

+1; wheel smoking power increase. Where they would break free at will, verses working for it. But then I got RE-11s. Now the party is over. The double edged sword of super-sticky shoes. ...but it was always fast-enough. Now the sound... Yummy.

The sound with just the headers is great, on all the v8 cars not just the F430. There is additional performance to be had! :)

The top gear video was not a real drag race, they were taking the rip out of James May about how bad the 430 now was. You need to take that entire review with a bucket of salt. :)

First off I think that both are good drivers who are really on it. So a comparison is meaningful -- often it is not.

It seems clear that the 458 pulls better out of corners at those speeds but the Scud brakes later. We don't know what pads/fluids or tires the cars are running but the lighter Scud would be expected to do well on braking. Ferrari records identical times for the two cars on Fiorano which is also a tight track. I would expect the 458 to be quicker on a faster track.

I think we can assume that the 458 Speciale will run away from both.
