I assume that this plane will be even more economical per pax-mile than the current -8 with a greater capacity. (Yes/No? hmmm it carries more fuel and weighs more, so maybe not).

I wonder; as AirBus keeps saying that the A350 XWB will be more economical than the 787. Of course, Boeing says the opposite; they're probably pretty close to equal, I'm guessing.

The A350 XWB is at least partly composite... maybe not to the extent of the 787.

Boeing's larger 787-9 Dreamliner makes first flight

Airbus does not have an autoclave large enough to do the entire fuselage like Boeing does for the 787. Result is the fuselage is cured in sections and then bonded together.

I'm on the Dreamliner for the first time today: Tokyo to LA. Can't wait!

I was on a 777 the other day from Milan to Hong Kong. I haven't been on one in a while but that is one terrific plane too. It's amazingly quiet compared to the 747, which I fly most.

...and not for much longer as they are more quickly replaced with 777s/A380s and even 787s.

United's will be retired very soon, Delta will hang on to theirs for a while, but that will be the last North American passenger airline operating the 747.
