Drove this car recently. Brakes or something were smoking very heavily – could have been all the oil under the block. Belts were old and snapping. Very few interior controls worked. Salespeople were super aggressive.

BUT it was awesome power – three of us on the drive up to almost three digits in no time flat and the SOUND – oh, mamma. What a sound to die for.

It’s probably overpriced as is, but on the other hand these don’t show up very often. Good luck to the next owner. It’s beautiful.

Car was rear ended so there’s been at least a partial paint job on the car, as well as possible sheet metal and/or frame repair work done.

    Carfax says
    05/05/2000
    Florida Damage Report
    Accident reported Involving rear impact
    With another motor vehicle

This is a TMU vehicle with undefined crash history from the rear, AND reports of multiple electric non-operational interior controls(all solenoids-NO spares really available anymore IMO), and almost 50K m iles, with front chain box oil leakage-a notorious problem with this engine family, and ONLY really fixed with removal of the chainbox and lower sump for cleaning and re-sealing-as per report of "smoking from brakes or something"....

Be VERY careful during the PPI, and MUST be inspeccted by not only a marque expert, but a model expert..

NOTE-the original title issued in Port Houston-was EPA lab test done at Compliance Labs?
Was conversion done at Intercol? Texas Coach? This info would tell me a great deal...

True mileage unknown. Can also be used to describe the woman dating your recently divorced friend.

I found when looking to buy one of these cars that I would simply write off a car with significant accident history or too many unanswered questions. Why get bogged down in a PPI on a car that may never be 'right'? There's almost always an alternative. Pick your colors, pick your tranny and keep hunting.

Not true - she's obviously gone round the clock at least twice. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure she's had a top end rebuild and been rear ended many, many times !

LOL! Just remember, these old girls (the 365/400/400i/412 series that is) may have some miles on them but they can still give you a thrilling ride! ;)

Although this may end up being the first time ever that a thread from this forum ends up in the Back Room Lounge!

Just got an email from a newsletter by Craig Balaban;he is with Exotic Classics where this 412 is; he says for the readers of the newsletter he will take $39K while it is advertised for $44900.....he then shows a BUNCH of records that you can see.........BUT the most recent date I can find is 2004,may be more recent but I just do not see one; most go back for many years and some to 1983.

Says it was his personal car since 2001...........I spoke to Craig, very easy to talk to, very friendly and very open about the car, says some fuel line work was done about a year or so ago. He loves talking cars!

dogdoc I am familiar with Craig and this car. I discussed the outcome of a test drive I did earlier this year in an old thread.

I have a good friend who bought a car from Craig recently who has nothing but good things to say about the guy, by the way. He's been extended every courtesy and the car had no weird undisclosed surprises.

Since my test drive, I've heard that they fixed the brakes - I have no further details however about the smoke issues.

He mentioned that this "slap noise" is common when cold and ACTUALLY cranked her and put his phone to it and sure enough I could hear it!

I did ask about any leaks and he did say there was going to be a spot or two at times....he was strongly suggesting a PPI and gave me a few names or said find one on your own; and he mentioned a few switches he would want to make sure are working.....I do believe he is being as honest as possible. He even told me about the bumper work and the carfax stating an accident and gave me the name of the shop that fixed the car........Doc
