Out hiking in the woods yesterday and heard what I could have sworn was more than one radial engine. Tried to get to the ridgeline in time to see, but couldn't.

So I stopped by the airport on my morning run and found the usual 172s, Cherokees, and, oh yeah, these...

Wow, that's cool. Part of an airshow or just passing through?

These and a few other aircraft (a lovely Beech Model 18/C-45, SB2C, PT-19, two T-6s) were in Fayetteville AR as part of "Bikes, Blues, and BBQ". They didn't have an airshow per se, but they gave rides, so the aircraft got off the ground once the San Francisco-style fog lifted (you can get a glimpse of it behind the B-29).

Other than that, the aircraft were open to tour and the CAF had wonderful volunteers: there were people everywhere happy to talk about the aircraft. Given the relatively light crowd, it was a terrific opportunity to crawl around the airplanes and talk with the pilots & crew.

NICE! Something about that sound. Last week the Yankee Air Force out of Michigan's Willow Run Airport flew their C-47 and B-25 over, plus I saw their B-17 twice last Weds while hacking nine holes. Man, so cool!

Any more photos you can put up?

As another old stuff, I have flown in both these aircraft, a B-24 and a B-29. " Diamond Lil" is an LB-30 but a close precursor of the B-24. My first remembrance of the B-24 is the freezing howling of ice cold wind but not loud enough to drown out the constant roar of the engines. The B-29 was the utmost in comfortability in its closed and pressurized modern design but now, both of them seem to be ancient... antiques like me.
