Well.. if this is true as we all already know..and considering that up to 200km/h the "declared" difference between the Speciale and the F12 is just 0.2 seconds..well I suppose that the Speciale will be wild enought and insanely fast too..:'-)
From what I understand the F12 0-200km/h is 8.5s, Speciale on paper is 9.1s? How did you arrive at 0.2s? And being the Speciale will be a 3-yr run w no intended production number cap, the depreciation will be roughly the same as a "non-speciale" production car like the F12, so that's another factor that's got me thinking.
The F12 is the "Italian version" of a muscle car: Front engine with enormous power from a large engine driving rear wheels. The fact that it can also go around corners just makes it a great one.
You are right! so the real numbers are 8,5/9,1/10,4 . The standard 458 is 1,9 seconds slower on the 0-200 km/h acceleration. As seen in the video. The Speciale is slower too, but the gap is much lower. On the papers.. Btw it is not so important in the reality right? these 3 cars are all too fast for all us right?
You cant compare a speciale with a f12... different kind of cars.. The best car is not always the faster...
Just had an F12 on loan for 3 days. Try before you buy!! I had a 550 and 575 before a 430 and now a 458, honestly if they gave me the F12 I would not swap for the 458. It IS outrageously fast, but somehow does not feel as special, that amazing feeling of bite out of corners, the interior is not as cohesive and the racing seats have only 1 setting, low, and its too low. I had both cars on my drive and the overiding opinion on looks (subjective I know) was that the 458 trumps it. How fast can a road car be i have never felt my 458 to be slow on road or track and the real sting in the tail..... my 2012 458 with all the carbon bits etc with 2800miles plus £140k!!!!! to own one
I had better not, you never know what happens to your car when it goes in and I dont want it to come back like I p!**sed off a waiter!
The engine of the F12 is in the wrong place =D I wasn't comparing the F12 to the Speciale directly per say, I was just saying given that I have my Scuderia, the F12 is becoming more and more of an attractive addition...what am I going to do with 2-mid-engined track toys when I don't hit the track as often as I should. Given the raw power and speed of the F12, it just makes more sense to me esp. when we're talking about the same price bracket with probably the same rate of depreciation since like the F12, it won't be a limited production car per say. sorry for throwing that in as a consideration factor...i'm an avg joe so I need to line up my pennies =) I wish my dealer would loan one to me for a day or two...
A technical point: From the video it does not seem like the difference is as much as 1.9 sec at 200 kph. For one thing 1.9 sec translates to a difference of nearly 350 ft (106 meters) at 200 kph. The video does not seem to indicate that much difference at around that speed. Also Car and Driver measured 0-120 mph in 9.1 and 0-130 in 10.8 in its 458 full road test. This works out to 9.8 for the 0-200 kph run. Road & Track measured 0-120 mph in 8.9 sec, a couple of ticks faster than the C&D car, which would translate to 9.6 sec for the 0-200 kph. Cars and measurement techniques vary but I would figure a decent 458 to come in in the high 9s for the 0-200.
Well, the original European sportscar had the engine in front and the driven wheels at the back. So, this is just an old school sportscar concept; like the 250 GTO for example.
Agree, where the engine goes and which wheels are driven does not define "sports car". Most (if not all) would say a corvette, a 911 and a 458 are all sports cars despite the differences in where their engines are. Similarly, a gallardo superleggera is AWD and certainly a sports car. Although I'm not sure I know of a fwd only sports car... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You are for sure right REALZEUS. But please allow me the following remark: everything in the world is relatively and a matter of perspective. Look at this video below, quit fast for an old school sportscar! I get the impression this outdated concept makes every 458 pretty pressure... 2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta: Hot Lapping & Testing The Italian Super Tourer! - Ignition Ep. 85 - YouTube
I didn't say that it is a bad concept, just an older one compared to the mid engine layout. The F12 is a great supercar and one could argue that it is a front-mid engine car as the engine sits behind the front wheels.
Yes you didn't say that, sorry if I made an unclear statement. I'm totally with you, it's an older concept and in terms of highest racing performance in direct comparison with the mid engine layout certainly disadvantaged. But there are moments when also this theory becomes unfortunately relatively. This year I had such a moment. Let me tell this story quickly: I own such a fast and predominant mid engine car (Scud, not a 458), visit often race tracks, drive quite well and basically I'm used to control the front/mid engine Ferraris easily. This summer now I had the first time the possibility to get a deep insight about the F12 capabilities on a race track (Salzburgring, Austria). A track with relatively simple and fast curves and a long uphill straight line. Long story short: The F12 was fast, extremely fast, very impressive! To say the least, this car made quite uncomfortable pressure to the whole mid engine-fraction
Working on it More food for thought for anyone else considering the same idea: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txmTgLFGdRo]2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta: Hot Lapping & Testing The Italian Super Tourer! - Ignition Ep. 85 - YouTube[/ame]
Keep us posted...sounds like the macca is gone...so it's only a matter of time... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Today..finally ..I configured the order of my Speciale. This is my first Ferrari so you can imagine my feeling.Untill today I just booked a slot but from now I am/will be a new happy Ferrari owner. To respect my character I don't need to open any special Thread..and I write now just to let you know that the dealer was informed that the configurator's files are under transferring by Ferrari facility and so this should mean that both the dealer's one and official one (on the webpage) should be available and online soon.Stay tuned.
Average Joe here too! didnt realise you also had a Scud sorry. Dont get me wrong the F12 is an awesome car and if Money was no object thaen of course I would sign up. My point is choice between 1 or other I would have a 458. i am slightly on a different line to your idea and looking for a used Vanquish, let someone else take a £40k hit!!!
