Found this listing,.......$5000 for an original jack and bag. 1957-1965 3500 GT. Maserati 3500 GT Tool Kit Jack Roll Bag Sebring Vintage | eBay That makes my car at least worth $10,000 Comments,....
Although I do not agree with Tony's price for the Jack and tool bag I must come to his defense. I have done business with Tony for many years and have always found him to be very easy to deal with and very trust worthy. Granted his prices are strong, but he has the correct and genuine part. If you are unhappy he will refund you with no problem. For guys who must have the original OEM part he has it. I have purchased OEM ignition switch and key blanks, thermostat, (OEM 3500) not the Mercedes one, and other rare parts from him. In all cases he was high, but had the right stuff. Here in Italy I just paid 300 Euros ($405) for a used original 3500 GT driver side door handle with out key. That does not include the airfare. Call me crazy but just try to find one. Now don't start quacking about the Alfa door handles which are available for $250 bucks for a set with keys. They are NOT correct, just ask Larry Ruben or Martin Loge. Sometimes to get the correct part you need to step up. This is especially true if your car justifies it. In my case the Latina (101.686) deserves a correct driver door handle and lock. Ciao, FGM
Maserati Bora Merak A C Reciever Dryer 2 Hoses | eBay This is junk. But yes, not everything on there is junk. But why list this?
To be clear, I didn't start this post with the intention of putting Tony on the stake in this forum I have purchased parts from Tony and he is a stand up guy. If you are not happy with a part, he'll take it back, no questions. And he has been helpful locating parts he doesn't have. I agree with Frank that his prices are HIGH. But as Frank stated, if you want the correct part, and it is rare, it is going to be expensive. I was hoping to get comments on the jack/bag and availability of them, how may owners have them in their cars? etc. etc. By the way, I paid about $2000 for my original jack and original bag, years ago. People said I was nuts, but I want my cars to be correct as possible, and original as possible. So I did what it took; it cost a lot, but oh well. Ciao and best.
Doesn't bother me. If you sell crap like that you deserved to be called on it. Call them like I see them.
With all due respect to you guys who are doing top notch restorations: If a part is not the actual part originally factory installed or shipped with the car, then why do you consider a used part from another car to be of greater value than a high quality reproduction part? My reason for asking this is selfish. I have set up a machine shop with the intention of making repro and hard to find parts. I've made some carb parts and and I'm starting on body hardware.
Carmine, NOS, OEM, or original used parts are the first choice in any quality restoration. Regardless of the make, be a MoPar, Maserati, or a Volkswagen. An easy example is in the muscle car restoration field. A Hemi-Cuda with mostly reproduction parts will always command less than if the car was restored with NOS or original parts. However, when NOS OEM or original used parts are not available, then a reproduction part is welcome. If you are talking about a crankshaft or pistons etc. I don't think it matters too much to most owners. But if your are talking about a front grille, steering wheel, door handles, air cleaner, fender, headlight trim etc. An NOS, or original part is should always be first choice. What are you tooling up for??? Ciao and best.
Hi Frank, thanks for your response. Here is one piece. A Weber 42 DCNF carb baseplate. The original was apparently cast and machined. The copy was machined from aluminum plate. Of course if I had shopped around I could probably have found a whole carb. I did this almost for the fun of it. I am thinking of body hardware like handles, hinges, lock mechanism, etc.. I have not decided exactly what yet. I've got a Khamsin door handle assembly in the works. At this time I'm machining completely manually but I am looking to set up a small CNC mill and after that a small foundry. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice work, I'd like to see the Khamsin handle! I could make some suggestions off line if you are interested. ~Trev
Hi all, I´m also interested in the jack/bag availability situation. It´s missing in my Sebring. My car is completely renovated so it´s not "a preserved original" any more. Had I been in possession of a car like FWMs #708 with this part missing I would definitely go for it. Back to the jack: According to McGrath in England jacks are avaliable as reproductions but only for "show", not to be used to lift the car. I little sick IMO. I wonder if these jacks were specially made for Maserati? Kind regards, Jan
FWIW Tony has original Lambo Robur wrhenches for the same price as someone else's reproduction tools. I also have purchased from Tony and have been very satisfied with his description and quality of his parts. (note he is also very fair with his shipping fees) I on the other hand have accumulated and assembled tool kits and jack kits and make repro kits for DeTomaso Mangusta, unfortunatelly people do not seem to understand the time and effort required to research, locate and/or have quality trades make at an affordable rate and quality components for said kits. ps even if I have an original jack in great shape I would not lift my car with it. Today we have fantastic aluminium floor jacks in our garages ( see Harbour Freight)
Hi, Which was the brend of the original Maserati wrenches at the time of the six cylinder cars? Has somebody a detailed picture of one of these wrenches? Thanks, Alain.
@ Alain, there is no brand sign on those tools, only "chrome vanadium" and the otherside is blank. Cheers Rudy. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Rudy, Thank you for posting the photos. If you also have the tools for the Ghibli, can you please post some detailed photos (high resolution) of the small part of the car jack, between the jack and the crank handle. I have the jack and also the handle, but I need the little adapter between. Thank you Alfred Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for the picture Rudy, I am searching such wrenches to complete the tool kit of my Mistral. Any idea where to look for? Alain.
