Kai, did they identify what the belt was rubbing against? It almost looks like a gear fence was chewing on it!
The Ferrari gods were smiling on you. That engine was living on borrowed time, although not unexpected given the yrs and miles stated. Certainly confirms these ain't no 60,000 mile doesn't-matter-the -years Toyota timing belt system.
Clearly something has been touching the belt causing a very bad wear. And you've been touched by your gods keeping the belt in place until the mayor. Lucky man!
Its a ply belt, edge wear would not affect the rest of the belt itself. The rest looks good to me, seen far worse still holding out strong.
Until the edge of the belt runs up over what ever it is rubbing and snaps, or develops a cut and snaps, or ....... and snaps.
Traveling right now. Haven't had a chance to touch base with Juan. In the mean time, here are some pics of the chassis... Kai
I absolutely LOVE the challenge wheels/rims! When I get my 348.. it's going to get a set of silver.. I already have a rear rim..
Found another surprise: a hole Surprise. Here is the inside: The nuts inside the oil sump had come lose and got picked up by the oil chain. They got stuck there and destroyed the housing and created the hole. Some crazy ****. Kai
