1975 Porsche 930 at the 14 and 15 June 1975, 24 Hours of Le Mans. Entered in the GTx class by the Porsche Club Romand and placed 15th overall driver by Bernard Béguin, Peter Zbinden and Claude Haldi.

With the exception of the front air dam and oiler cooler, this looks like a pretty stock ’75 930 that originally had air conditioning installed (larger rear tail vent). Also note the power antenna, original '75-style driver's mirror, and snorkel headlight washers.

Youtube video shows the sole 1975 930 entry (time 2:05) at the start and it appears that the pace/safety car may have been a silver 1975 930 (time 3:02)? Does anyone know the chassis number for No. 20?

    Guys,

I'm really confused about the window trim. Mine looks like aluminum front and rear, while the side window frames appear anodized clear.

I have seen many with all black trim, many with front and rear aluminum trim, and some with what appears to be chrome window trim. Were these all options on Turbo Carreras? My COA is silent on the matter.

    Thanks!

That makes sense to me. Were these originally anodized black?

A couple of other questions, if the brain trust doesn't mind...

    1) my car has a crinkle like finish under the front bumper, was this factory or added later? Many of the pictures seem to make me think that the finish was smooth like the rest of the bodywork. This is the panel that the front rubber spoiler is attached to.

    2) my car doesn't have a rear wiper. Were these standard or optional? My COA doesn't list one, and if it should be there, I will intend to reinstall one.

Thanks again. My car will need a complete repaint at some point, but other than the above concerns and a couple of missing tools, it's complete and everything works well, so I just want to do it justice and bring her back to her glory days.

    Stephen.

I believe the "crinkle" finish is standard. IIRC, my 86 turbo had that finish and I think my 77 does, but I need to go and check. As far as I know, all four of my turbos (77, 79, 86 and 91) had rear wipers so I would guess it is standard.

I think rear wiper was standard, but rear wiper delete was an option. I'll check tomorrow at work to be sure.

Hah, that silver 904 in post 1521 could be me. Not my car, unfortunately, it belonged to a friend.

Correct, the black anodizing fades over time (badging, window trim, wheel center cap, etc) and many folks think it was chrome trim or not originally black. This was common across black anodized parts on all 911s in the 1970s.

1975 Barcelona Motor Show, which has held in april. Coud this be one of the prototypes? I'm sure this car didn't go back to Germany and was sold new in Spain. I've been also told about a very early 930 in Spain with a 2.7 turbo engine. Was the engine of the prototypes a 2.7?

The crinkle finish is standard. It should also be on the bottom panels along each side and on the back valances behind the rear wheels on each side. If you rub your finger under each fender it should also be there as well. It is also under the front hood.

PET shows both chrome and black window trim available for the '75-'77 Turbo.

Firstly, thank you guys for the information. I am hoping to put this back to all black trim, but my gf likes the "chrome" look and wants to keep it that way... She is a good woman and car girl, so I'll have to think about that.

Joe, I have heard that the first prototypes were 2.7 litre cars, but I haven't seen confirmation. Curious to see factory evidence.

That's correct (for my 1986 rear wiper delete was an option).

Preproduction 1975 Porsche 930, S-AZ 3030 in the 28 September 1974 Auto Motor und Sport: “Porsche forges on with new weapons: in the next year with the 911 turbo Porsche’s strongest and most expensive series on the market. Expected performance of the turbocharged boxer engine 280 hp.”

At that time, FIA rules required 500 production examples that was later changed to 400 production examples over a 24 month period for Group 4 (934) and Group 5 (935) racing: “Nevertheless, one builds it, within one year - by April 1976 500 turbo carrera. This is the prerequisite for the Grand Tourisme-class homologated.”

    Ryan –

Some additional information on ice green metallic ’75 930, 9305700018 listed in your 3.0-liter registry. This 930 was for sale in the July 1988 issue of Panorama for $18.5K/OBO. As the ad states, this was probably the earliest 930 in the U.S. before it went back to Germany. Chassis number is only a few numbers away from 0014 and 0015, Paris and London show cars. There's a few '76 930's from this issue you can add to the registry as well.

Thanks for the update. Also note 9305700018 recently spent time near Treviso, Italy before returning to Germany within the last year or two.

I was about to ask where the pic was taken, but pulled out my so far unread Panorama... Alberta...

    Great article.

    Agreed, Panorama is completely transformed.

Uncle Billy, I didn't realize that was your turbo carrera when I flipped through the magazine. Will have to read it tonight. Gorgeous car.
