Mighty Planes: Martin Mars | Smithsonian Channel

What an awesome plane. Last one flying. These planes are huge, and a few facts I recall from the video are that 7 were built with this one being the last flying. The wingspan is twice that of a 737 and it cruises around 220. If I had just hit that 400 mil lottery someone hit ten miles over in the next town. This would be the ultimate flying prevost...

The four engines are stout ones.
Each one is a Wright R-3350-24WA Duplex Cyclone 18-cylinder radial engine.
Rated for 2,500 hp (1,900 kW) each.

I wonder how many gallons of fuel it takes for the plane's typical firefighting mission?

The most awesome airplane! Very happy I got to see it fly.

They did a stopover in Vancouver a few years ago enroute to California. Did a couple of touch & go's in Coal Harbour, then did a drop in front of the RVYC. Looked like a mid-air explosion of water!

Amazing to see them come down over Stanley Park at treetop level and fly overhead at <200'; ground-shaking!

One of those odd size / distance situations: after it passed by, you could still see it clearly in flight for the longest time, then you realized it was already over 5 miles away!
