I saw it last night also and I agree with your view completely. My favorite line: "Tell the priest to f**k off! I'm still alive."

    Great movie.

Best line of the movie. Saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Incredible race scenes. I don't know how Ron Howard does it. The story was not exactly what I expected but a must see and will add to my Blu-Ray collection.

Saw it last week and loved it. Thought the last few minutes when the real footage was cut in was superb and more than a little emotional. My wife who has little interest in Motorsport loved it too.

Apparently it's number 1 film at the UK box office this week btw.

I would agree that it's much more about the Hunt/Lauda rivalry and what drove each guy, but that's not a bad thing to me. When I watched the races as a kid, they were very 2-dimensional...you just see two guys racing in fast and stylish cars. I think the story is compelling for non-F1 fans, but it provides context in a great way for those of us who enjoy the sport.

My only complaint is that the movie itself moved to damned fast. I couldn't believe how quickly 2 hours passed.

The compliment I will give is that the movie told the story of two fierce rivals, but you don't really walk away disliking either. That's usually tough to pull off. I'd go so far as to say that you end up liking both.

The Helmuth Koinig scene was a little disturbing. It seems like they saved it from the cutting room floor, but it didn't really have a role in the story (outside of Niki's "calculations")

Was that intended to be Koinigg? Timewise it seemed more like the Cevert crash, and the "wreckage" shown looked more like a Tyrrell.

As for the Alfa Romeo forum review, maybe they were miffed that one of the cars that Lauda blew the doors off of while driving the Lancia was, in fact, an Alfa!

    Just watched it. Unbelievable. Stunning.

    Best racing movie ever.

I'm still collecting my emotions. Immensely powerful.

+1. I can't believe how quickly the movie flew. I will definitely add it to the collection. Honestly, I want to see it again because I know I missed some of the details on the first viewing.

    Loved the movie

No comments on enzo's scene? I thought he was great and very realistic.

Wouldnt regga and nikki driven to party in a daytona or boxer rather than 308? Where was ldm's scene?

Thanks for this factual context ... interesting.

It is worth noting that Lauda had a huge lead before the accident and take the accident out of the season Hunt would never have closed the gap. I have a lot of respect for Hunt but the accident defined the season.

Best movie I've seen in a long time. Sure, some liberties were taken with the facts, timeline, etc., but these were done for dramatic purposes. The way that Howard moves the story forward with the interplay of off-track and action scenes is nothing short of brilliant. DVD and Blu-ray are already available for pre-order on Amazon, and my order is in!

    Well said.

I'm hoping it'll get some kind of Oscar. Soundtrack was stunning, maybe that'll qualify. :)

Well, at Watkins Glen in 1975, I was hanging around the garage on Saturday morning and I saw Niki getting out of a yellow 308 GT4 like the one in the movie, and he kindly autographed my race program. (Unfortunately, the autograph has completely faded away in time.)

(Of course, at that time, the 308 GT4 (and perhaps some leftover 246 GTS's) were actually the only cars Ferrari was selling in the U.S. at that time, since the BB was never officially imported. The new 308 GTB hadn't quite made it over here yet.)

Happened to some of mine too. But if I hold the card at an angle, one can still see the "imprint" the signature left behind.

    Ergo: Always use a Sharpie.

Wasn't mine when they were shooting. Otherwise I'd have been open to offers.

Great to hear the ladies like this flick. I've given up on going to the movies. It's chore with babysitters, what to see, etc. I gave up on golf a few yrs ago for this reason also-that and the fact that it kills your game when you can only play 2x each yr max

Thanks to Opie Cunningham I may actually score some points with my Wife going to this!

My wife and I went to a private screening a few weeks ago and she loved it, she is into cars but not racing. I give it 8+/10 too. The movie did go by fast and was very well stitched together. The hospital scenes left nothing to the imagination. The movie was a dramatization and I was expecting that and happy it wasn't sappy or too predictable given we know what went down. Lauda praised the gt4 as it was the best handling and most progressive car at the time (mid engine v8) so not surprised it was used for the timepiece.

Now it is officially in theaters I'll go watch it again with friends. Howard will have no problem making his money back on this world wide release.
