I have fitted a HGTC exhaust system, but does my 2005 612 have the solenoid valves?

    Hi

This afternoon I fitted a HGTC exhaust system on my 2005 612. The bypass valves are fail open as we all know.

I did expect a bit more grunt from the HGTC exhaust than from my Fuchs exhaust, but boy the HGTC exhaust is loud! Maybe even too loud for my taste, so here is the question:

Does my 8 year old 612 have the needed solenoid valves in order to operate the bypass valves? If not I guess it will be a major job retrofitting....?

    Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question. However, may I ask where you found the HGTC exhaust? I have a 2007 and may do the same as you.

It should. All you need to do is find the vacuum hoses that were probably tied up out of the way when the Fuchs system was fitted. Then reattach them to the fittings on the pneumatic valves. This is the right side muffler and you can see where the hose fits on the pneumatic valve assembly.

Thanks for the quick reply Taz

Are You sure the old 612's were prepared for operating exhaust systems with pneumatic valves?

I guess the HGTC/HGTE were the first 612's with this kind of exhaust system....and (as far as I know) these models were introduced in 2006.

Please also consider that my 2005 612 was born with the standard exhaust system without pneumatic valves. The previous owner then later decided to fit the Fuchs system (still no pneumatic valves).

I should of cause have looked for the bypass solenoid valve and vacuum hoses when the old exhaust system was removed and the underbody shield was off....but I was in a hurry, longing the great exhaust noise :)

    Thanks

All the Ferraris have had them since at least the F355, but I am not sure about early 612s. The bypass valves are covered on page C3.05 in the workshop manuals for earlier Ferraris like the 575, but that page is missing from my early 612 WSM. Not "being prepared" like a lot of the sections, but not there at all. Best way to make sure, is, like you said, look under there. Does not show in the early parts catalog, either. Neither in the exhaust system drawing nor the pneumatic actuator system drawing.

You are correct early 612s didn't have valves on the mufflers. This parts drawing is from Ricambi and it only shows standard mufflers. Ricambi doesn't show any valve operated mufflers, even though we know the HGTC and OTO have valves. My standard 2007 has valves but not the HGTC double wall tailpipes that have the better sound.

Jerry- It would appear valves were fitted in the 2006 timeframe, but difficult to prove. Good news is you can see them on the inside tailpipes, so we may be able to get some early 612 owners to look.
