Saw Rush with the FCA here in QLD last night (we're special and got a preview screening) Good movie for all people not just F1 fans. I was hoping that Ron Howard would re-write history as Americans are so keen to do but he stayed faithfully to the result (boo) and it really shows Niki in a calculating and mentally tough personna. For those going to see it I won't give the ending away Needless to say I wasn't happy so take that for what it's worth One query from the film, when you see Clay and Niki going to a party in a 308GT4 please see if the interior shots look like they are in a GT4, I've owned one for enough years to know where the engine bulkhead would be in relation to the front seat occupants and in the shooting it appears that the bulkhead is right behind their heads but as we all know the engine bulkhead is a good few feet behind the heads of the driver ....... just an observation
Howard did rewrite history - the whole rivalry thing hugely exaggerated for the sake of a dramatic story, plus the invented commentary from Hunt about risking his life. I was disappointed with the story but thought it was clever film making, the way they recreated all the circuits from one track in the UK (Bruntingthorpe as I recall) and the blending of actual with new footage was well done. Lauda's crash being the best sequence in terms of real drama and realism.
you've got to make it interesting to more than just idiots like us .... I'll ask Giovanni Millard if anything about Hunt was factual

pfft - more TV ratings sensationalism. Motorsport did the definitive, plus calm and logical, article on this story a couple of editions ago, interviewing the McLaren team manager at the time.
Watched Melancholia by Lars Von Trier on SBS last night. Wanted to see it for some time and was not disappointed. Beautiful cinematography and well acted. Very dark themes, so don't watch if you're feeling depressed! Melancholia (2011) - IMDb
Exactly. The YouTube video reminds us that Lauda had an enormous points lead at the time of his crash and thus Hunt was not pushing him or even a rival at that point. I'm not sure I want to see it. Films are made naturally to make money and as 99% of the population are not gear heads the film has to be tailored to suit them and thus miss the point completely for us, who get it. Pete
It's entertainment and if you treat it as such will be very enjoyable with the bonus that it is set around F1
